The last two spinning reels I've spooled up with braid have give me trouble. One was Spiderwire 6/20 and the other powerpro 6/20. Within a few casts I had a major mess of line that had twisted back on itself during the cast between the rod and bait.

Putting line on the first one I held the line spool up and down turning on an old arrow shaft with line feeding off the top of the spool like I do my casters. I thought that it wouldn't matter with the braid since there is no memory. Then I got the line mess with it on the first fishing trip and thought I should spool the next reel different.

I did the next one with the spool laying on the ground like I usually do spinning reels. At first the line tried to twist back on itself so I flipped the line spool around and it fed off fine onto the reel. I thought problem solved until the first fishing trip with that braid and it tangled up like the first.

Never had any trouble with braid on the casters.

Any tips..... i have never tried line conditioners, do they help braid?

This stuff is to expensive to keep cutting 50 feet of line off.

What was that?

The way you fix that is use monoafilament. Braid sucks as far as I a concered. Maybe for catfishing a little.

i'm using 50# braid on my rod, its a mudville catmaster(walmart special) and i've never had a tangle, i'll probly never use mono on a spinning reel, maybe it has something to do withh the slightly smaller diameter your using, but i'll never go back to mono for catfish.

Line conditioner will help some. Are you manually closing the bail after the cast? I have power pro on all my reels, spinning and baitcasting, except for the fading I really like it.

At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

Sounds like you might be putting too much line on the reels. I use braid on spinning reel and use a #7 swivel and tie on 18" leader of mono. The swivel really helps/\.

I have found it to be real helpful to let all of the braided line off, tied to a swivel topped weight, a couple of times at the lake after respooling with new line. Yes close the bail before reeling and always use a swivel on spinning reels.

swivel is important if the bait you are using is twisting in the water.

try some spiderwire stealth.its has a coating on it that helps out with twists and knots.

I use braid on all my reels including spinning. If you fill spinning reels too full you'll have trouble. Try removing some braid. Never had a problem with twisting like I've had with mono.

Been using Power Pro on spinning reels for years nd have never had any problems with it! Try only filling the spool to 1/8" from the lip of it instead of all the way. Make sure you closr the bail by hand.

+1

I always spray mine down with reel magic before each trip. And yes, always close the bail manually.

braid is the way to go on spinning gear.
when spooling, hold the line w/ your fingers so therre's tension as it goes on the spool.

Watch for loops on the spool the first few casts after putting on new line.

Started using PowerPro this summer and really like it.

What is the reason for manually closing the bail?

I can't really explain the physics behind it but it really does make a VERY noticeable difference in the amount of line twist. thumb
