I know its still early; but when you think about it February is right around the corner and the spring spawn will start getting active. Has anyone given thought to what the spawn conditions may be like on Granger for the spring of 2009? Today the lake level is at 500.48. The lake level hasnt been that low since June 1984. Does anyone remember that? That same year the lake dropped another 1.94 to 498.54 and that was in early October. By the end of October the lake was 2.5 above conservation pool elevation. That was not the case this year and the lake level slowly continues downward with no site of beneficial rain in the forecast. In fact the 90 day outlook calls for above normal temperatures with below normal rainfall chances. This could make for an interesting and challenging start for the 2009 crappie season. What say you..

Time to bust out the jon boat and the 1946 Johnson HD25. Won't they spawn in the river, just the same? Maybe time for some standing timber fishing.

Where is El Ninyo when you need it?

Where the heck have you been Reggie? Long time since we have heard from you. The fish we have been catching seem to have larger egg sacs than this time last year. The above normal temps will start the spawn a little earlier. The water is not as cool this year compared to last and will start to warm back up sooner. We all might be bank fishing this year for the spawn if we don't get a bunch of rain soon. Getting tougher each day to launch. Just my 2 cents.
Keep on fishing.

Yea, I remember 84 on Granger. Truthfully this is worst. See,the lake has silted in sense then. In 2008, you got a pump station on the lake, back then, no pump station. You are loosing more water each day than then. The long run out look for no rain is compounded by the pump station. Have you looked at lake Georgetown. It is about 20 ft low. They been sending water down the Gabriel to keep Granger at a better water rate. All those house you see on the way to the lake from Austin, That's your fishing hole keeping those yards green. It is possible you might not have a boat ramp open by the crappie run. People need water, and Williamson county don't have that many water wells to keep it green. Our fishing hole is changing. I started fishing it in the 80's, it has changed alot. One thing hasn't changed, their is still alot of good people fishing her. Be patience, mother nature will give her the rains. We just might be walking to our brush piles for a while.
