Spoons should be used by everyone. When the fish are feeding on shad, the person with the right sized spoon will be the most effective. They are good for covering different depths of water. Trout preferring silver over gold spoons is only a generalization. Gold spoons are better in low light conditions and murky waters, silver is better in clear water and black is most effective at night. Be aware that emphasis should not be put on the color of your spoon but rather the speed in which you retrieve. Keep in mind that the VIBRATION imitating a wounded baitfish, is the most attractive attribute of your spoon.

Last summer I was wadefishing at Port Mansfield and throwing a 1/4 ounce gold Johnson weedless spoon. The guide I was fishing with was using a 1/8 ounce gold Bagley Sculptured Minnow weedless spoon. He was catching at least six redfish to every one I caught. I waded over to him and saw what he was using and got one of his spoons to use. I started to catch more fish immediately. I am a believer in them now. I guess maybe the hammered finish is the difference.

I have never fished saltwater with my baits, but many of my customers have and had success with them. Check them out, might be something you might want to try, several colors to choose from.
www.tntslabs.com Thanks again good fishing to ya!

I like the mid sized Bagley weedless gold spoons. They just seem to catch more Reds in the flats. A Bagley gold spoon will last MUCH MUCH longer than a Johnson Sprite. The Sprites tarnish after 1 day of use. The Bagleys last forever. They are also made of thinner metal than the Sprites. That lets you cast a larger spoon over shallow grass without having to reel too fast to prevent the spoon from going into the weeds. As soon as weeds are not a problem, I bend the weedless wire out of the way to make more catches. I also keep the hook razor sharp. Quite frequently, I will catch a Red on the outside of the mouth. I get mine from Roy's in Corpus Christi or mail order from BassPro.

Hope that helps,

Carlos in Austin
