Any sugestions for the best 110 volt electric knife for cleaning sm-med-large cats, sandies & striper????
I had (trouble cutting) through the catfish bones (with) my new $40.00+ (American Angler mt3 saltwater knife) w/8" & 10" shark blades. According to one review it also doesn't do well w/ walleye rib bones either. I possibly can fix the problem w/their 8" freshwarter replacement blade if it fits the knife. I also bought this knife to clean the few sharks I catch each year. Sounds like the mister twister piranha does well w/heavey cutting but cuts to fast for smaller fish. Right now I'm ready to take this am angler knife back to academy or try a freshwater style replacement blade.

I use one of those cheap mister twisters from Academy. It cuts through those bones. I will also us a Rapala fillet knife. That sucker is sharp enough to cut any bone, but I keep it sharp on my wet stone. My Rapala has cleaned many shark. I find myself using it instead of my electric fillet knife.

crappies, sandies and all other scaley fish i use an electric knife, but for catfish i go old school. i good manual fillet knife and a good pair of skinners. dont ever touch any bones. and can almost do it as fast as others with an electric knife. and theylast forever, just a little practice is all ya need.

Don't clean many cats anymore, but I went through a lot of electrics until I got the Pirahna. That baby keeps on keeping on!!! I burned up American Anglers and my expensive Rapala. They just quit. Now the old ones were good, but they aren't the same anymore!

Never had any trouble with my American Angler knife. Replacement blades are also easy to find.
You guys know everything..... I'm just an idiot....no problem........

Frank 1,
You must be using the freshwater blade? The 8 & 10" shark blades don't go thru rib bones well enough to tackle a large catch of catfish.

I also use the American Angler and went through thousands of kitties last year and the year before without any problem. I don't use the blades that came with the knife I use a replacement blade that I can get a walmart. It is real thin and has a blue plastic guard on it. Don't remember the name as I am still using the same two sets I got when I bought the knife. I just use a chain saw sharpner for a drimmel tool and then buff the back on my knife sharpner.

When I fillet cats with an electric, I don't even try to go through the bones. I start my knife at an angle working over the top of the rib cage.
