Why are crappie in the creeks?Do some move from the lake to the creeks in the shallow WHY, why not go to deep water in the lake,or are they the crappie that are in the creek all year long and just stay there.Sorry for the question but i dont know thanks

They go there to die. Many crappie are infected with botulocystic myopiandra in the Fall, which is similar to rabies, and can be transmitted to humans through eating of the fillets, or simply lipping an undersized fish without sterile gloves.

These tortured fish seek solace in their dying hours and swim up creeks looking for warmer waters to dull the pain that the infection brings.

The Center for Disease Control has issued warnings about crappie comsumption - check their website for a listing of creeks. Most lakes in Texas have outbreaks of BM, except in far West Texas, where you're welcome to fish all you want.

retarded........ they go up the creeks to feed on shad in the winter and bulk up for the spawn.
