Your best bet is fresh cut shad. Buffalo fillets are good. For channels you can use several different things, cheap beef hot dogs(I hear they hold together better if you microwave them first), shrimp, cocktail wennies, punch bait, dip bait, liver, I hear secret 7 from team catfish works real good, but never tried it.

i have trouble finding shad, but i do farely well on small bluegill, usually cut a couple of fins off so the let some scent out, and they stay alive for a while, use shrimp alot on trotlines when i don't have live bait.

Be very careful when ordering from team catfish, they charged me $29.00 for shipping from Oklahoma to Dallas and it turned up in a $7.00 Priority mail Box, seems they pad there prices with shipping.

newtobassfishin, that may of just been a simple mistake, I ordered from them and that did not happen, on the other hand I have not caught one fish with that product, I still use danny kings blood when I cannot use/find live bait, even if I have live bait for some reason the number of fish I catch on live vs DK is way less. Maybe it is just me but just in case I always have DK with me.

[color:#CC0000][b]Big Marv's Bait Company

[b]Big Marv's is the only man made bait I'll put in my boat.
You don't need any speacial hooks, worms, tubes or gadgets.
Alls you have to do is poke your #6 hook in, pull it out, cast it and hold on.
Marv will take good care of you, if anything he'll take the short end of the stick on the shipping, he's way more than fair.

The following fish were all caught with Big marv's Cheese Bait.

Good luck and be safe.....

I've seen quite a few reports in regard to Big Marv's and I'll have to give it this. It can catch some blues! I have not caught a blue yet on DK's. Plenty of channels, just no blues.

[b]Marv's works great on both Blues and Channels.
My Good Friend Cliff Hill uses it over at Calaveras all the time to put Channel cats in his boat.

Since newtobassfinsin decided to make our mistake on his order public knowledge.....I have decided to show everyone the respone I sent him. I asked him if he would like a full refund including his shipping charges back to him and he declined. Now he is upset and spouting off. Mr. newtobassfishin why didn't you take my offer and let us take back our goods?

We try very hard to be fair at TeamCatfish.com and have many great customers from the TFF. we have made most folks happy with our shipping services and if we didn't we have tried to make it right with them. I don't know what else we could have done in this instance.....

Here is his invoice plus his email he sent to us. I broke it down by questions or statements. My answers are in bold text here is the exact response I sent to him.......

Here was the email he sent to us and I quote......

"Dear Jeff,

I wrote to you because your card was in the box.

I just received my order and it is short, item 2 on the packing slip was 2 x 2 Pack of Secret 7 Dip bait, all I received was 2 tubs instead of 4. You charged me for the tubs and I am disgusted at the shipping charges, you use a Priority mail shipping box, $7.00 and you charge me $29.08 and an extra 3.95 for the emergency towel, you sure dont know how to keep customers. Please send me the additional 2 tubs and then completely remove me from your customer list, yes I am angry. No catfish is worth being ripped off for."

My answer and offer......

I just received my order and it is short, item 2 on the packing slip was 2 x 2 Pack of Secret 7 Dip bait, all I received was 2 tubs instead of 4. This was a mistake, we are sorry.

You charged me for the tubs and I am disgusted at the shipping charges, you use a Priority mail shipping box, $7.00 and you charge me $29.08 If we would have shipped your full order it would have came in a flat rate 12.95 large priority box.

and an extra 3.95 for the emergency towel, No sir we did not it, they were free. The catfish rewards require a 3.95 fee, you mistake this 3.95 for you charges. (Please see above)

you sure dont know how to keep customers. I disagree we have had over 1000 customers order from us in 2008. The shipping rates HAVE been a small issue due to the charging of multiple items.

Please send me the additional 2 tubs and then completely remove me from your customer list, You have 2 options here.you can mail us back all your products for a full refund including your shipping charges or let us send you the products we owe you. The shipping charges are a little high when we have customers that order multiple items. Our e commerce program has no way to combine shipping on multiple items. This is an issue we are dealing with and trying to resolve. We will remove you.

Most of our customers that have large orders call in their orders so we can give better shipping rates. We are happy to combine multiple items in large boxes for better rates. Calling in your order might be an inconvenience for you but it is the best way we have to do it to save on shipping.

yes I am angry. No catfish is worth being ripped off for. I agree.but everyones ideas of getting ripped off is different, and folks like us sometimes do make mistakes
Please let us know which way to go from here.

Now everyone has the facts about this this statement from newtobassfishin. I just wanted to defend our point of view!

Hey sorry you had to see the above series of events. Usually you don't see stuff or atleast I have'nt seen stuff like that happen before. Getting back to your original question, I prefer fresh or live bait such as shad but you should not discount some of the prepared baits, such as the ones listed above. I've used DK's and Stick it with good results. Buy one try it out. If you don't like the results try another. Thats one of the things I like about fishing, limitless spending.

I mostly use Big Marvs and it is a killer on Lake Tawakoni and I usually get my limit of blues and a few nice channels. I did order a bucket of Seceret Seven and it did catch fish but I didn't like the furry thing and ended up mixing it with a gallon of big marvs for a good combination. I have never had an issue with Team Catfish and I called in my order and they were very helpful. I just received 4 of there rods and I can say they are one of the best at that price I have used. Don't call anyone out over the forum pick up the phone first and give a call and see if you can work thinks out. Everyone have a Happy Holidays and full limits.
