I fished Lavon yesterday. We caught several fish. I do not have a scale so we measured the 3 bigest fish. the measurements were length and girth. 47 x 28, 42 x 27, and 38 x 25. Does anyone know of a reliable formula for estimating the weight of catfish?

I took pictures but I can't find the cord to upload pics to my computer. Its not a mini USB its for my sony camera model DCR SR200. As soon as I get one I will post pics.

Here is a pic of my personel best caught at Lavon almost three years ago.

I found this on a TPWD website.

How can I estimate the weight of a fish that was caught and released?

You will need to have the length and girth of the fish to calculate an estimate. This formula works for all fish, although the example is for largemouth bass. To get weight in pounds, square the girth in inches (girth multiplied by itself) then multiply this times the length in inches. Divide this product by 800.

For example, we can use one of the recent ShareLunker bass. The girth was 20.25 inches and the length was 26 inches. First, take 20.25 x 20.25 to get 410.06. Multiply this times 26 to get 10,661.6. Divide this by 800 to get 13.33 pounds.

Hope it helps. thumb
If my two brain cells are still working, according to my "old math" your weights would be respectively, 46.06#s, 38.27#s, and 29.68#s.
Not a bad day of catfishing. woot bannana2 flehan

I couldn't find any shad so I went to the grocery store and bought two items, mixed them together and they produced big cats.
Don't think I'll be wastin my time hunting shad anyomre. A friend told me about this bait, claimed it would out fish shad 3 to 1. It sounded like a typical fishin fabrication to me, but he wasn't kidding. He also said not to tell anyone. He reads this forum so don't bother asking.
