I changed one of the main light builds in the rear of the trailer. Its the big one that used for breaking and is on when running. Now only both rear lights come on when i hit the breaks.

Otherwise i have no, running lights on the sides of the trailer, no signal lights, and the same light that lights when i break are not on when the break is not applied. I have a Nitro trailer. What should i check?

Also i have one original trailer light kit and one replacement.

Sounds like a fuse... What kinda truck do you have?

i got the same problem only reverse. All running lights and no brakes or blinkers? Hmmmmm????

most all trailer light problems, when some work amd others don't, is a ground problem..You must have a good ground between the trailer and tow truck..just using the ball hitch as ground will cause problems...Start there..

I have a 2005 tahoe. I put a special plug into an outlet. Would i check for blowm fuses in the truck? If one of the light kit grounds were bad would this be a symtom? I am not sure how the truck and trailer are grounded? I have been able to test it with the truck close to the trailer but the trailer ws not hitched to the ball. thanks for the help.

Check the fuse box under the hood. My truck did the same thing (2005 Chevy) There should be one labeled trl/stp or something like that... Look at your owners manual.... I bet you have a blown fuse.... Mine did the same no running lights but brake lights worked....

Working on boats and trailers I have found it best to check and repair trailer lights with a manual battery charger at the plug. That way you do`nt blow fuses and then if lights do`nt work when plugged to tow rig you know to check the main ground, wiring, plug or fuses of the tow rig.

You can go to the auto parts and get one of those light trouble shooters that goes between the boat and truck. They have little LED's on them that shows what's working. This will help eliminate truck problems. They usually cost less than $10 bucks.

check to make sure you did'nt turn the bulb a little to far so its making contact on both leadheads. in the right place each leadhead should only touch 1 prong

Thanks all. This is what i have checked, but still i only get brake lights and turn signal lights, no running lights.

1) fuses checked ok, replaced anyway no change. 2) checked adapter to outlet with second, no change. 3) checked ground on main trailer hitch, ok. 4) checked ground on lights kits i messed with. The original is wire nutted togther with trailer ground & kit wire. The replacement kit ground wire and trailer wire i have screwed to a bolt (should they be wire nutted together? 5) checked bulb position, made sure little nub on bulb was toching socket housing slot edge. 6) Tested all while hitched to truck.

Should i replace the original light kit so there is a matching set? This worked ok for a year. How much does a wiring job cost if some else does it? Boat is 4 years old. Any more ideas welcome.

solder the ground connection, throw away the "nuts", then unbolt the ground, use some sandpaper and clean the trailer where the bolt goes thru, then use the sandpaper and clean the connector. Put a small amount of grease on the connector and bolt then put it back on the trailer. You would be surprised how good an insulator rust and paint are.

check for corosion in the socket. should not make a difference it the tail lights are missmatched. with the truck hooked to the trailer and lights on use a volt meter and see what is working or not. touch red lead to one of the lead connectors in the socket and ground the black one if it is hot the meter will show voltage. repete on all sockets that are not working and move from the back to the front and check the plug comming from the truck where you plug the lights. this should find the problem.

Bulb placement looks good. Checked resepticles for corrosion. Bought volt meter today will trouble shoot as decribed, wish me luck.
