Ok, need some help here. I froze my butt off Saturday fishing. Had two pair of long jon's on and jeans and 3 shirts and a jacket and a ball cap. What is some of the best stuff to stay warm while fishing cloudy windy days? Tell me what you think. Survey time.

You had it right except you need a wind proof layer on the outside. Layer up and make the last layer raingear. Also helps to have some good boots and a warm hat.

We were way under-dressed when we got to Texoma Saturday. But we were fine and here is typically what I wear: T-shirt, sweat shirt, hooded sweat shirt, hooded Gortex rain jacket, neck warmer, ball cap with stocking hat over it, insulated sweats, ski pants, 1 pair socks insulated boots (but saturday they were packed so I had was tennis shoes).
There are 3 types of gloves I like, but a light pair for driving the boat was all that was needed Saturday. Later I use a light neoprene glove to fish with and pull a fingerless wool glove over it if needed...ski gloves to drive the boat with ski goggles if needed.
This seems to work all winter long and just take some off or add another layer when needed...

Whatever you wear, you want to make sure it fits kind of loose. This will allow for the warmth your body puts out to circulate underneath the layers of clothing. To tight and the warmth is contained, therefore it doesn't circulate. When temps are below 40 degrees, I'll wear fleece lined jeans, thermal top, t-shirt, medium duty jacket, waterproof insulated boots, knit stocking hat and gloves. Over top of all of that I wear a BPS 100 mph suit, for wind and moisture protection, but any type of wind/moisture resistant shells will suffice. Ideally, you would want some type of polypropylene base wear to wick away sweat, especially if it's cold and humid. The whole goal is to create an insulated, loose cocoon around your body to allow your bodies warmth to move around, sort of like an oven. I have been on the water with temps in the mid 20's wearing this set up and remained comfortable the entire trip

I found out last year that generally, the hunting clothing is cheaper than the other specialized stuff. I bought a three way insulated parka, and cover-alls at Academy last year. I think I paid around $89 ea. I bought them in (I think) mossy oak break up pattern. To help me hide from the fish . And a pair of gortex boots and gloves at Cabelas. They did me fine all last winter fishing for kittys. They kept me warm and dry even when running across the lake. Oh yeah, I bought a mask/head sock thingy at Dicks for my face. I learned the hard way, put your gloves on before your hands get cold.

Ok, I know people talk about layers. But I am not wearing 50 pieces of cloths to stay warm. This is my set up. Now remember I fish a lot in the winter and most of the stuff I buy will last for years. Some of it is expensive but I found my 100 mph suite on sale last year for both pieces for 200.00 bucks thanks to a TFF member that posted it. Start with the top. Wick away shirt Fleece top Fleece lined jeans short socks, regular then Wool socks and to top it off my 100 mph Bass Pro Suit And I like to wear a toboggan, and when It is really, really cold I wear my savephace and you end up with this Still working on the right boots or shoes?

Light inner layers and an outer wind proof suit. Good shoes and gloves are a must. I have thought about fishing in my gloves all year round just so when I can get used to catching and feeling the fish hit my lures. Kind of like the football players that wear gloves at every game. This will also help keep the sun spots from apperaing on my hands.

Very good advise about the 100 MPH rain suit. It will cost you in the beginning but will pay off for years of use.

I guess I am cheap--I bought a pair of silk long johns at Academy when they went on sale($5 top $5 bottom) then I put on a walmart knock off Under Armor shirt and some thermal bottoms(stretch kind) on clearance at --yup---Academy last year. A Columbia shirt and waterproof pants(Again Academy clearance) and my Gortex from the military days and finally Wolverine boots(waterproof with gortex) I got on clearance at Cabelas. Got less than $100 in all of it and never get cold.

I wear my insulated coveralls from work. Just have to have jeans & sweatshirt underneath it & I'm good. If it's REALLY cold & there's any rain at all, then the bright yellow rainsuit comes out on top of that.
Gloves ... learned very quickly to appreciate neoprene gloves. Pricey, but well worth the money.

Jeans and sweat shirt, insulated coveralls, cheap insulated waterproof boots and knit cap. On wet or windy days, a gore-tex rain suit goes on top. Need some type of glove also. Never am cold with this outfit. I am a little cold natured and this combination is comfortable into the low sixties.

Silk long johns, wool shirt and trousers, wool socks, turtle neck silk long john top, leather gloves, rubber boots and cocoa butter(bar) to coat on all exposed skin(face) and a catalicic heater in bucket between my legs. Wool is wind resisant and water resisant. Prefer merino wool products as they get the job done but are lighter in weight.

layer 1: UnderArmor thermals, turtleneck shirt, wool dress socks layer 2: Dbl layer cotton hoodie, jeans, Big wool socks layer 3: Wall's Blizzard-proof coveralls, leather boots, thinsulate gloves w/ the first finger/thumb cut out, and a wool toboggan. thinsulate balaclava for use while running.
I've been comfortable in 28 deg. temps/25mph winds with this. not catching any fish, mind you, but comfortable
