Hi folks we finally got enough information from all that were on the TFF Seite Tuna Big E trip that was cancelled to be able to put together a plan for a rescheduled Seite Tuna trip.
Here's what we have for folks to consider:
Seite Tuna
Date: November 21st-23rd, 2008 Friday-Sunday
Boat: Scat Cat
Location: Fishermans Wharf, Port Aransas, Texas
Departure and return time: 8am-4pm (56 hours)
Fish Plan: Fish spars for tuna for two full nights, deep drop for AJ's, snapper, grouper, etc during the second day
Captain: Ronnie Hale, captain of many years along the Texas coast. Very successful sportfisher boat captain
Cost: $678 or less per person (There will be a discussion with F.W. regarding cost per person to finalize the cost, assuming there is enough interest in this trip
Payment: Those that commit to this charter that have a deposit on file with T.O.O. will have the balances emailed to them based on the final cost per person. Those that are new to this charter will be required to pay the price in full.
Total number to fish: 18-20 people, the upper limit will 20 people

A couple of points to put out to those interested in doing this charter.
1. The Scat Cat is a catamaran style boat, very smooth in choopy seas. 85' long, runs about 15 knots at cruise. Not as fast as the Big E but about the same as the DSH boats.
2. This is a new venue for F.W.,but Captain Hale is very experienced in doing tuna trips and other deepwater trips over the years. The captain's knowledge and experience is not in question.
Deckhands might be a bit green on running a 56 hour charter and the tempo needed to function the whole trip, but so did the DSH, Big E, and other boat deckhands when they started these trips. This is the only area that some understanding might be needed, as the experience for deckhands comes from doing and having things happen, so there might be a bit of "oop's" by the deckhands, but they will work their tails off, that we were assured by Captain Hale and F.W.

There has been some discussion between T.O.O. and F.W. about total cost based on the number that want to go on Seite Tuna.
Hopefully, that will affect the cost per person, but the maximum cost will be $678 if there is no change in the cost per person from F.W.
T.O.O. does not do these trips for free as we are a business, but our fee is very reasonable, and we promise we will do our best to make the trip as cost favorable as possible.
As F.W. is new to the scheduling of these long range trips, they have a few things to clarify, but the total cost will be no more than $678 and hopefully T.O.O. can make the cost a lot less.
3.Some of the amenities on the Scat Cat
Sleeping bunks
some tables left on the boat as well
Shower
Cooking/food preperation area
Refrigerator
Gas grill
Top deck for rod/tackle storage
Live wells

Things to consider that the Scat Cat does not have or lacks:
Casting area is a bit tight, bow is fairly open, stern area will be a bit tight as casting will have to be the "cast and move up the side to retrieve" method.
No boat is planned perfectly for all types of fishing. Chunking, flying fish free-lined, jigging all can be done without any problem. If there is a lot of topwater casting some teamwork will be needed, just like with any charter.
A list of those from the Big E Seite Tuna trip that had or are currently on Siete Tuna:
JP
Bazztex
Walleye
Kneal
Margarita Mojo
GregK

There are 5 others that have expressed an interest in this date, this boat, and this charter. If they do commit, that will make 11 commitments.
If you are interested in doing the rescheduled TTF Seite tuna Scat Cat charter, please post up and then call us at (210)215-3877, or email us at too@outdoorstexas.com to join Seite tuna. F.W. has given us 48 hours to see if there is demand for this trip, and we will need firm commitments, and then payments within a couple of weeks.
Please use our email adress as it allows us to keep everything in place in one spot. We will need an email commitment from everyone wanting to do Seite tuna on the Scat Cat on November 21st-23rd, 2008.
It looks like it will be a great boat and great fishing as right now the tuna are being caught at the spars.
Post up and let's get 20 to fish Seite Tuna.
Feel free to contact us at the number or email if you have any questions about Seite Tuna.

Willie

If anyone wants to jump on board this trip please do. We still need 3 people to commit to make the trip go with the minimum. YOu can contact T.O.O or fishermans wharf regarding the trip.
I hope some of you guys can make it!

It is a shame not to sail because of lack of participants.
I'll join the trip as other fishing schedule planned this week is cleared.
Looking forward to fishing with you guys.

I like to cast poppers, but you force me to use jigs. smile
I don't believe there is any special techniques for tuna jigging. The best technique is to stay on the rail longer than any other guys and jig. smile

same with the poppers... You keep popping LONG enough.. and one will hit... My dad told me once (ok- maybe a HUNDRED times) you CANT catch fish if you lure is NOT in the water.... and its true...

the last trip I sat on the bow the whole time, EVEN with the captain telling me I wasnt gonna catch them on topwater... Little did he know I had already had a couple blowups smile I told him to give me an hour and I would try something else(out of respect for his suggestion- I always show respect to the captain). It wasnt 15 minutes and I finally learned to let the fish have the bait before setting the hook... TUNA ON!!!!!

SO KSong-- dont let me stray you from tossing poppers- because BIG ones are eating them right now. My favorite is the purple/black ones. BECAUSE they cast a darker HUE against the sky from underneath. the fish can target them easier than the shiny ones that blend into the waves in darkness smile

Good Luck!!! Pink/white or Pink/chrome jigs are my favorite for the yellowfin tuna, also smile
