I am heading out to Mineral Wells State Park this weekend to do some fishing at the lake and I am not able to locate any topographic maps of the lake. I have only been to the lake to fish 3 times (only once from a boat with no depth finder) so I am not familiar with the location of humps, etc.
I would like to formulate a generic 'plan of attack' prior to hitting the water but without some idea of the bottom structure I will be going in blind. I will be in a small portable boat but it may or may not be outfitted with a depth finder (I know I need to get one, please don't flame me).
Does anyone have a website for free maps or some information about the lake that might help my journey?
I intend on targeting bass and/or crappie... whichever I can locate.
My opinion is worth what you paid for it...

fish the island near the boat ramp, especially the east side. The rock walls on the east side of the lake and small cuts can be good crank bait water. I haven't fished it much but those were the only areas I've had any success. Good luck!

BigLeslie is pointing you in the right direction. I also like to fish the cove on the west side of the lake that goes up into the campgrounds. Fishing a swimming jig over the water willow weeds or flipping a jig or plastic in the same weeds has produced a lot of fish for me in cooler weather. You can follow that same western shoreline uplake and around the point - that north facing shore on the backside of that point has always been good for me. Of course with the north wind this weekend it may not be too good If you get into fish in the weeds, pay real close attention to exactly where your bait was when you get bit. Sometimes the bass will be in very specific spots, like where reeds come up through the water willow, or a log, etc... Crappie can be caught anywhere along the shorelines but the A-frame along the west shore seems to be the spot.
