Looks like another river gives up a good one to a local Expert. What a freakin' pig!!!! This toad was as big around as the length of last Channel I caught. LOL. http://www.fishsniffer.com/dbacher/081020catfish.html

Looks like just another 50 LB Blue cat to me. If I was the former record holder and wanted to keep the record I think I would have to call BS on that one.

Somehow I believe they have the wrong pictures posted. That is not a channel unless is some type of cross. I belive would not only be a state record but it would also be the world record if were a channel.

http://home.earthlink.net/~catfish_billy/id15.html Here is a link to the picture of the world record channel. They look alot different to me. 58 pounds is the world record I thought it was 48 for channel.

I would have to agree on that picture looking like a blue to me....on a side note i browsed on captain steve's web site. I would like to commend him on releasing catfish over 10#. Alot of people do not realize the slow growth rate of these fish and that fish over 10# are our breeder fish.

That is a big boy! I think he should have released it too though. I wouldn't eat a fish like that

I was thinking blue too, but the Department of Fish and Game had a biologist examine the fish to determine the species. I think IMHO it should have been kept alive for age studying by a lab or university. No telling how old that dude was.

Where did you hear that the fish and game look at it? Just curious but by that picture I would say blue. THe anal fin fits a blue plus the hump at the dorsal instead of flat like on a channel. It maybe a Channel but the picture just does not look right. I would love to have seen that fish in person.

My vote is that the pics are a blue cat ... maybe they sent pictures of the wrong fish in for the website?

I vote Blue as well. And it is a shame that it was not released back into the wild. A cat that big should live and breed.

Overall,it is a nice catch!
