What is the flouro tip your talking about?
its a flourocarbon leader
.....Whats it help ? or is it top secret
No secret Jason, Cliff Spindle, and Lance have mentioned that at times when fish are skittish and can see the line they will not take the bait.
For example last week on Twok, Skeeterbite was using yellow braid with yellow braid leaders and he was not getting any bites. I was using flouro and Cajun red and was doing fine. As soon as he got rid of the braid leaders he started catching fish. To the point that he was catching cats while he was re-tying the two rods that had braid. In areas he had been fishing just minutes before.
I got lucky and got 2, 2000 yard spools of fluorocarbon line at West Marine for .02 cents each (regularly 98.00) and well that is what I am using now. I am giving Lance one and I use one for leader line. I spool it on left over reel fill spools and carry it on the boat.
Another thing that Jason pointed out was to tie your weight set up using a Palomar knot and the hook improved clinch like that if the hook gets hung up the improved knot will break and you will not lose all your set up. In addition to this I was introduced to flat no roll in-line sinkers and boy are they great on windy days.
I am still in the learning stages since this is the first year I fish for cats, but I am steadily moving alone. We went out and caught shad as insurance last night, bag it in lake water and froze them at 0 degrees. Thanks for this tip Lance.
On the lighter side Greg broke down and stepped away form high dollar equipment and bought 2 Cabela's King Kat Rods with ABU 6600 CB's and he is sold on that set up those 8 foot King Kat rods made short order of those nice blues and at 19.99 each what can you loose.
Like I said I know very little but in the last two weekends we have managed to put over 30 cats that weigh from 3-6 pounds in the boat and one 15 pound blue, so I guess we are off to a good start.
I will be experimenting with pig blood this week.
