.......but if any aircraft could do that, that would be the one..... .....As far as the clean break, this could happen on that type aircraft providing it is of the type that they take the wings off to ship it to the shows, bolts/supports could fail and make a semi clean break.
Answer...I just dont know....but if it had been me piloting then it would have been the last time...for sure. These were my thoughts as well. I know the extra 300's have huge controll surfaces as well as a high thrust/weight ratios. I'm at work now but tommorow I'll see if I can find the clip on you tube of the RC plane that did almost the exact same thing with the landing slightly different. I know they have a higher thrust/weight ratio but still the same basic principals of flight. Found it. Maybe the link will work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsNIhBlyepc

It is a hoax, albeit, a fairly well done hoax. It is part of an ad campaign for a German clothing line called KillaThrilla. There is a lot on the internet about the fictional pilot, James Andersson. He does not exist in reality, however he has a website. Fun video though. http://www.hoax-slayer.com/one-wing-plane-landing-video.shtml

Yeah, I was attempting to do some research on it yesterday and ran across some items saying the same thing. Amazing what some companys will float out into cyberspace to promote their product. I'd like to see the interview with the "alledged pilot". Thanks

I don't know much about planes but quite a bit about video. Distorting video is one of the oldest tricks in the book to turn science fiction into science fact. Nice work though and cool video.

I thought it was real until the plane landed. You could easily tell it was computer animated at the landing.

I looked it over with my Dad, whos been a pilot for over 30 yrs, said the rudder and ailerons were all in the correct place for the movements of the plane. The wing detached att the bolt.
Most aerobatic planes are Extra's
Engine Engine Lycoming 300 hp 6 Cylinder AEIO - 540 L1B5 Propeller Composite Constant Speed Propeller - MTV 9-B-C/C 200-15 three-Blade Seats 2 Maximum Gross Weight 2,095 lbs Standard Empty Weight 1,470 lbs Never Exceed Speed 220 kts Maneuvering Speed 158 kts Maximum Rate of Climb 3,200 fpm Stall Speed 55 kts Range 414 nm FAA Certified Load Factor +/- 10 Gs Length 22 ft 10 in Height 8 ft 7 in Wing Span 26 ft 3 in
With Improved ailerons boost the 300L's roll rate to 400 degrees per second. All 300Ls are fully certified under FAA and European Joint Aviation Authorities regulations.
He's got enough control to change pitch( rudder ) Left right via aileron and throttle control. Straightening the rudder near landing in the video, would level out the plane
However, the plane sounds like, appears as, and performs like an Rc model. The fact no one screams when he looses a wing, no smoke system, and you would have your hydraulic lines out with no wing. It's real, with a model RC. Ive see guys hover vertically in 10 foot wingspan Piper Cubs
