Went to Bastrop yesterday for the first time and launched out of the "South" Park. I am sure glad I did. Talked to the LCRA ladies on the way out and it appears on the North Park Ramp they are having issues with the vultures. While you are out on the lake hooking up on some fish.... these vultures just love to sit all over your truck and carp all over it. They also will tear up your windshield wipers and anything rubber attached to the truck/trailer. I heard one person left their windows down a bit... two vultures got inside the vehicle and went nuts. LCRA people couple not do a thing too... as the doors were locked.
Morning bite was awesome on topwater. Bluebird skies came though, and that bite ended after an hour. Fished t-rigged w/r/f lizards till noon. Nothing huge, but both of us limited out with keepers. The guy in the back of my boat, was his first time ever bass fishing too.
Use the South Park for launching. Ramp is steep but works well. Oh ya, lake has grass..... lots of it.

The problem is the towers for the power lines that cross the lake at the North ramp, the vultures roost on them and that keeps them close to the parking lot and the garbage cans. The park has installed a "pyrotechnic cannon" or gun that fires randomly (noise only not real gunfire)to spook the vultures but that only works to a small degree. Some people actually use tarps to cover their vehicles and that helps too. I've also been told the park rangers walk the parking lots on occassion and help scare the vultures off. I told the rangers to "shot em" and was told the though that's the best idea the vultures are federally protected. Go figure!!!! I know this link is for New Jersey but couldn't find the Texas one. http://www.aphis.usda.gov/ws/statereports/NJ/vulturenj.pdf

The Texas Bass Team is camping out at Bastrop this weekend and we wanted to camp on the North shore but they told us that was a bad idea due to the vultures, and told us to do the South Shore instead. They must be bad...
I've always seen a ton of them out there but I've never had a problem with them.
