I posted this in the Open Freshwater forum--

Are there any public ramps open on Buchanan these days? What about some of the lodges or marinas? I don't mind paying a few bucks to launch if I have to. Last time I was there I used the "resort" by the dam that used to be a Burnet County park, but I had to wait until after 9 am.

Thanks.

John

Silver Creek is still good I think. 5 bucks, but you are already on a good part of the lake to fish. Also, there are always tons of shad there in the evenings and mornings.

Thanks guys! I launched at Thunderbird. I don't think there are any public-free ramps open at this point.

I didn't do that well fishing--I managed 3 white bass on slabs in front near flag island. I was marking some bait, but I couldn't fool 'em.

Launched at Silvercreek today....May be usable for a few more weeks if it doesn't rain soon. Lots of real estate is out of the water. Flag island is not an island but part of a big land mass that goes all the way back to the shore.

We didn't have any problem getting out or getting back.
The lake is very low and getting lower.
No lighted docks on the west side (except for paradise point) as most of the docks are completely out of the water.

Managed only two stripers on artificials today. Marked lots of fish in 24-35 ft. but they seemed to be smaller whites.

Water was clear at a level of 1006.42...it won't be long till you can start seeing the tree tops sticking out of the water.
Winds were negligible from the south with a relatively higher barometric pressure.

It was nice to be back on the lake with gas prices around $2.15 per gallon.

Thank you Lord for getting us out and back safely.

R

What is the current lake level? When it was down 30+ feet we were still launching at Silver Creek and Burnet County Park. The Burnet County ramp should be very good. They poured a lot of concrete several times during the last drought to keep it usable.

I'm going by the LCRA webpage that says the Burnet Co. ramp is not usable. Maybe it is wrong? They haven't updated it to show that the county park next to the dam is no longer a county park.

Has anybody actually tried it lately?

Thanks. I won't trust the LCRA site anymore.

Burnet county has two parks and ramps. The Big Chief ramp charges and the County Park ramp on 2341 about half way down the lake as you get near silvercreek is operational and free. It has a good ramp but no dock to use for picking up passengers. Robert Francis
