Got off work at 10:55 PM, had jig in water, underneath the street lamp in the lip of the underwater culvert by 11:00 PM, and by 11:20, had these:

chartreuse tube jig on a 1/16th oz UNPAINTED jig head, vertically fished off the sidewalk into the lip of the culvert, about 7 ft down.

"Fingers through the line" technique.

What is "Fingers through the line?" Google just shows this thread and a few Bimini Twist knots.

Nice job once again Rudy!

The finger through the line technique is: 1. let the jig go all the way to the bottom. 2. While holding the rod still, grab the line between the reel and the 1st eye of the rod. 3. Then SLOWLY pull the line out so that the jig slowly comes up.

Hope this helps! thumb

Is it safe to be out there late at night? Obviously you have never had problems or you wouldnt be fishing there, but I have heard of and seen some fairly unscrupulous characters out there during the day, so I would be a little nervous at night.

Yeah, I'd be careful. A friend told me that the Parkland ER frequently sees knife and gunshot wound victims from "the bachman area". . .

Nice job Rudy! Those are some good looking slabs!

Finger through the line technique seems to work great!

Yeah...I always want to fish there too, but that lake and the surrounding area reputation didn't sit nice with me.

Oh nice fish!

in other words, it's not in an all white neighborhood, right? Last night there was no one there but me, and it was 100% safe. But that's ok, y'all stay away, more fish for me!

Good times

Rudy

I fish Bachman armed, but then again, I fish everywhere armed.

I grew up around there, I know what goes on out there. I wouldnt say its less dangerous than some other places, but its hardly an area were rolling gun gun battles occur. Just like everywhere else, you must stay on your toes. Dallas isnt hardly the dangerous city its made out to be.

I find this to be an insulting comment since race was never brought up in any of the posts. I dont think race has anything to do with whether an environment is safe or unsafe and we all know that the Bachman Lake area has been known to have some troubles..right or wrong and those of us who have never spent as much time fishing there as others just want to be informed as to the level of safety there.

casey ,it is what it is !To tell the truth it's realitively safe during daytime/weekday.It's already been mentioned that there are homeless living under some of the bridges!Which is more of a nusiance than a danger! On weekends the park is generaly packed and although its a public park with drinking prohibited, that is often overlooked by regulars, especialy on weekends ,folks drinking and smoking rope no matter what color can sometimes be a problem !
I hope that is the information you were looking for!

i fish there pretty regularly and have not seen any homeless under the bridges lately. I'm sure they're around though. Friday night there was a crowd of fisherman basically camped out with a grill ready to cook their catch.

The biggest problem I have had at Bachman was when the Jesuit crew kids parked on the boat ramp stranding me on the lake.

As others have said, it is the city. Be aware of your surroundings, especially after dark. Get to know the local fisherman. They will guide you to the best spots and you are less likely to have trouble when you are in a group.
