How many of you guys use Flowmaster? How much does one cost for a 2000 model Chev PU? How much to install? Are they worth the $? Thanks for any replies.

Hey Corky1, I had the 2 chambered FLowMaster pipes with the chrome echo tips, installed, and it seems to me that it ran almost $200.00, or maybe a little cheaper. Are they worth the price, "YES!!" Once installed, go and buy a K&N air filter and you'll watch a vast improvement in your fuel mileage. I travel 100 miles per day round trip to/back for work. My low fuel light used to come on at 415 miles, now at 450 to 460, and I can get 515 miles per tank of gas, where I used to be lucky to get 450 to 460 miles per tank. I too have a 2000 CH PU, and not only does it sound good, and look good, it gets better gas mileage.

I have been using Flowmasters on high performance vehicles for years. They are everything they say they are and more. I would not have any other brand of muffler. Are they expensive? Yes. Are they worth it? Yes. And really the cost is offset by the performance over a period of time. They don't wear or rust out, therefore eliminating the need to replace them, unlike conventional mufflers. Also, depending on if you are wanting to run true duals or just single back to the muffler, the price will vary. For true duals you are looking at close to 250-300 dollars. Give or take depending on who does it and what quality of work they do. Definately go with the Flow......'s! ------------------ Kbobbjr

JC, I did the very same as you in my 2001 Dodge Truck 4x4 with a 318 motor. Picked my mileage from 10 to 14.5 miles per gallon.

If you want good performance don't ever go cheap, and Flowmasters are not cheap, but once you add the K&N air filter, the money you save on gas will definately pay the cost off. I wish I could do this to my Mercury, man it would sound tough, and if I could get better gas mileage, hmmm, this sounds like an idea...where are my tools...lol ------------------ JC

I am also considering the flowmasters for my truck. What I don't know is, do you have to go with true duals all the way back, or can you go with a cat back system and still get the improved gas mileage? Thanks. ------------------ Tight lines

Hey JC, Where did you get yours installed? Was it $200 for parts and labor? Would a K&N air filter help if you don't have a Flowmaster? Where can you get one of these filters? Thanks for your reply..

A few years back I had a full sized Ford Bronco, 302, auto, 4-wheel, etc, very nice truck but would not pull a hill at 70 mph, let alone run into the wind, that's unloaded, no trailer, nothing.
First changed out to a K&N filter which made a noticeable difference. Then changed the exhaust from the headers back with a larger diameter pipe(still single exhaust), freer flowing catalytic converter and mufflers (not Flow Master).
The total effect was a jump from 15 to 18 MPG(at 70mph), and enough power to pull a boat comfortably at highway speeds.
I had originally planned on Flow Master, but was afraid of the additional noise level inside the truck.

Sportsman3535, you don't have to go with true dual to get the extra benefit. Alot of places won't do true duals anymore, but you can find some. Corky1, I got mine done in Tyler at 3 star muffler. I have had them put on the last two trucks I have owned, and they will be on everyone I ever own. As far as the noise, they are not Glass packs, and they don't rattle off. Flowmasters have a nice roar, or hum, they sound good on the newer trucks. They have a three chambered and a two chambered. The three chambered a little quiter. I went with the two chambered because I love the sound. It's NOT too loud in the cab, even at 70 miles per hour. As far as the K&N, I believe they'll work even without the Flowmasters. I DO know that the combination of the two, gave me more horsepower, and alot better gas mileage. You never have to buy another air filter once you get the K&N, just keep it clean and oiled.

Corky, If you're close to DFW, check out Kinney's Muffler in Bedford, Texas. I had my Flowmaster installed there on my 2000 Dodge. They do great work. They can/will do single or true dual exhaust systems. Also, last I heard (I haven't been there in a while) they had a sound chamber where you could pick your vehicle and then the muffler and check out the sound. Don't hold me to that, it's second-hand information. I love my flowmaster. It will improve gas mileage slightly, and put a little better pep in your get up. And if you're like me, you'll love the sound. Most Flowmaster's have a deeper sound than the traditional "glass packs". Hope this helps. Give Kinney's Muffler a try if you're in the neighborhood. -Jeff

Thanks for the info. Also, How much should I expect to pay for a cat-back flowmaster system installed? How much for a K&N filter? thanks. ------------------ Tight lines

I can't quite remember the exact price, but it seems like the K&N run upper 60's or 70 dollars. It may seem a little high, but again, with the increased pep, gas mileage and performance, and also, they are there for the life of your truck, they are well worth the price.

I have a flowmaster on my truck. Mine is dumped right behind the flowmaster though. I like the noise. I also have the Generation 2 K&N. It is a hole kit replaces your old air filter box and tubing. Alot more air. I definately notices a difference in performance and gas mileage. The K&N ran about 250 and the flowmaster was about 240. Worth every penny. I had just the K&N filter but wanted more. Mine is also a 2000 z-71. ------------------ David [This message has been edited by dlee1996 (edited 04-02-2003).]

I'm glad ya'll are on this topic. My question is that I just purchased a 2003 Silverado and was told by a salesman that he thought a Flowmaster voided factory warranty. I don't see how this can be since I had one on my last truck and it was never questioned. If any of you have any experience with this let me know. Also would you think you would still gain performance if you just cut the old muffler out and replaced it with the flowmaster leaving in stock pipes and cats.
