Hi ladies,
I've been trying to find some decent rods for my wife to use and am having trouble. She has a couple of the Pflueger Lady Trion combos and she really likes those but they only come in medium action. She really wants to get a couple of med-heavy rods to work with heavier baits but we're having trouble finding rods with that action with skinny enough handles for her to comfortably hold.
Any suggestions?
Jason

Jason,
There is a lot to consider on the rods as I am sure you are aware of. Cost is one. Hook set is another and the techniques used for fishing. I prefer the rods that Michael Hendrix makes. His 70 M is a good all around rod and I use it for multiple applications. He offers the traditional grim or the slit grip. For my hand size, I like the split grip. He has some rods on the shelves at Fun and Sun in Hurst and Southwestern Parts and Supply if you want to check those out. Hope this helps some!

Mag bass GLX.. light as heck... if you want even lighter.. try the PR GLX models..they are even lighter and have larger guides.
I personally think it is very hard to beat any GLX loomis rod when it comes to weight and sensitivity...although pricey.. they are really great rods. And their warranty is really great.... super people to deal with.
just my 2 cents..

I have really liked using my Dobyn's Rods. They are both sensitive and have the backbone to pull a lunker in. They have some with the split handles and some with the solid grip handle. My hand fits just fine on both styles. If your ever in the Lake Fork area, give me a call and I'll let her test them before she makes a decision.

I love Judy Wong rods. Academy quit stocking them in my area, sadly. I like a Falcon Lo Rider, but they don't have girly colors. I buy these rods during Rod Riots only at Academy. I hear a lot about Falcon Cara's...but they are really out of my price range.

My favorite by a long shot is the Daiwa Light and Tough series. They are not designed specifically for women, but they seem to fit my small hands well. They are sensitive and you get a lot of action....I have found them to be very versatile from jigging to heavier cranks.....to plastics. I also enjoy Shimano's Crucial rods. Both can be picked up at Bass Pro in the $150 ish range I believe.

Any suggestions? American Rod Smith Judy Wong ladys rod. Its super light 7ft meadium heavy action. Kinda costly but you get what you pay for. I have 2 of them that I keep rigged up for those super long tournament days. When my joe burns custom gets to heavy I pick up that purple ladies rod and its equal to holding an air guitar. http://www.americanrodsmiths.com/Product...82/Default.aspx

I forgot to meantion it but you can always call up Joe Burns. He does custom rods and will build you whatever you want. I have 1 of his that I use for wormin. When testing it I was doing a first cast with my old academy worm rod then usin the joe burns rod. Lets just way I could tell what was actually a hit and what wasnt when I picked up the custom rod. Joe Burns work is top notch. I will pm you his number once I get home. I cant get on fast bass to get it here at work.

I will warn you that this will probably void the warranty on the rod, but it worked for my daughter. We selected a rod with the action that suited and I used 80 grit sandpaper to cut the handle down to fit her hand. If you are careful you can get it very even. Then use finer grit paper until it is smooth. Get some good cork sealer on it. I did this a few times over the years and have had good luck.

the american rodsmiths is the way to go, the titanium series rods are light and very strong. sug. retail is about 179.99. my sister uses te pink ladies they are also great rods. you will not be disapointed with the judy wong, in 2009 the shelly gray rods will be released. they both have all the action vareations you could want.

If you are still looking for rods, I have been using mostly Setyr rods the last 2 yrs and most of them have split grip handles and the rods seem to weigh less. They have some excellent medium to medium heavy action rods with great sensitivity. I also have a couple shimano crucials and like them.

Hi there, I just asked this question on the general discussion forum. I got some great recommendations. You should check that post out. I also found that www.reelfishinggirl.com has a good selection of ladies rods.
