Are you talking about leaving Texas? Or staying in Texas?

If you're staying, lakes like Texoma, Meridith, and Whitney are fairly good bets, along with some others too. I'm sure some of the locals will have some good ideas.

Otherwise, you'd be better of hitting another state for smallies, further north, or out west in the mountains, or maybe towards Kentucky.

Texoma has em. There are a few folks on this page that can put you on the Gran Slam...Smallmouth-Largemouth-Spotted-Striped bass all in one day. thumb

Stress less, relax more. Go fishing.

Haven't fished for Smallies here in TX, but plan to take a few trips this coming spring & summer.

Lots of reports on smallies at Texoma.
One of the canoe trips on a central TX river/stream looks like a great time too.

Here's a link I had saved: http://www.texasriverbass.com/

Miles Riley is awesome and you can catch smallies, rainbows, cut throat, brown trout, largemouth and all sorts of panfish! Awesome cabins too.

If you are looking for something in the area, Rocky creek Lodge on Lake Whitney has guides available. The trip to inquire about is the overnight float trip on the Brazos. In the summer, a buzzbait is all you need to have a easy 40+ fish day. Chris has been guiding on Whitney for over 20+ years and now only guides on the river float trips. The scenic beauty alone is worth seeing. Chris has held over 10 records on that part of the river, has been featured in numerous outdoor magazines and is #1 guide, and has been for years. 254-622-3383 Rocky Creek Lodge.

Lake Erie it can't be be beat for size and numbers. 100 fish days are the norm with most fish being 3-5lbs.

I recommend the devils river, excelllent smallmouth bass and the cleanest river in the state of texas. Ranks as mumber 1 in my besty of texas and is an excellent smallmouth bass fishery, just upstream from Amistad too.

It is a little bit of a drive, but I would have to agree with coach, Riley's. Or Greers Ferry Lake, in Arkansas, excellent.

Go to lake St. Clair in Michigan there are but loads of big smallies there and it is not far from Lake Erie either. I took a trip to St. Clair in 2000 with Gerald Gostenik who is a pro on the B.A.S.S. circut he showed me and my sister a really good time.

In Texas, Texoma and Belton would be my top two choices! Outside of Texas, I would head for Lake Pickwick on the Alabama/Tennessee border on the Tennessee River for BIG smallies. In fact, a fellow by the name of Carl Boaz was here this weekend from Alabama carlboaz@mindspring.com and not only does he guide on the lake but he also makes some killer smalljaw (and LMB) jigs! I would recommend him to you simply because he falls into the category of being genuinely friendly and nice!
Lake St. Claire on the Canadian Border and Lake Erie are also distant, but excellent Smallie destinations for numbers and occasional pigs!

Don't forget Lake Murray in OK. 75 miles north of Lewisville on I35. Good smallmouth and walleye lake.

Tight Lines!

Smallmouth are tough in the summer on lakes. They suspend allot and are hard to catch. Just thought you might consider that.
