My manual says I can have 10 saved trails. I now have 9 and am wondering what is going to happen after tomorrows trip if I save a trail.

One guy says I can have 100 trails but I can find nothing on Lowrance's site that says how many.

Do any of you know for sure how many trails I can save?

Also do you know of a way I can manage the trails in a file like I do my waypoints?

you can save up to 100 routes and 100 plot trails at (10,000 points/trails)

you manage them just like wpts, when you feel the need to back them up. back them up on a sd card.

medic then my manual is wrong on Page 132?

I noticed that they all seem copy to the card and show on MC7 when I save any wpt file. I have some stumpy areas on Pomme de Terre lake that I need to keep seperate. Is there a way to work with them like wpts?

Yes you can manage them similar to waypoints. I keep a file of trails for each lake. For each lake, I have a trail file that includes one trail per day on that lake. Keep in mind, this method can clutter your map if you visit the lake often. You can eliminate the clutter by making one or all of the previous trails invisible or change the color of each trail.

Here's what I do:

- Before I launch the boat, I delete all my trails on the unit.
- Then I load the trail file for that lake from my SD card.
- After a day on the lake, I save the data to my SD card.
- Open the .usr file in GDM6.
- Delete all waypoints and event markers from the file. The only data left should be trail data.
- Rename Trail 1 to Trl-102708.
- Save the file as LakeName_Trails.usr

Trails, yep the manuals say 10 only.

Here is what I do.

I do not run with the Update Active Trail (ON), I keep it OFF.
In other words I do not constanly create an active trail (all those lines drive me crazy, that could just be me. But creating a constant stream of an active trial does me no good at all, except for cluttering my map/gps with useless lines).

I create a trial only when I want to create one (only when there is a purpose to a trial), normally just to navigate through some trees/stumps.

To create a trail (thru some problem area), I turn (VIA the Trail Options tab) the "Update Active Trail" to ON. Drive the boat thru that problem area, get to the end of that problem area, and then turn "Update Active Trail" back to OFF. You just created a trail. So now either go to your trails menu list of trails, chose the trail you just created, and edit it. Make sure it's marked to be VISABLE and change the PATTERN and COLOR to your liking (to make it stand out from other trails, especially if you like to leave "UPDATE ACTIVE TRAIL ON all the time). Or to edit a trial you have made/created, you can use you cursor and move around your map/gps screen and when your cusor is over a trial, it will tell you which trail that is (Trail 1, 2, 3 etc) and then hit enter again and your EDIT that particular TRAIL SCREEN will pop up to allow VISABLE ON and change PATTERN and/or COLOR.

Looks like only 10 can be in memory at any one time.

But when you save your Navigational data "TRANSFER MY DATA" to your SD card all Waypoints, Trails and Routes are saved.

Medic,

Both the current "Online" LMS unit manuals and the LCX manuals say 10 trials.

So I kind of have to go with the producers/manufactures word on their own products as to what they have written in their owners manual.

But in this case, I called Lowrance and they too say, up to 100 (total) combination of Routes and Trails.

So (maybe ) you cannot always trust what you read.

YEA, They need to change their manuals.

I have not exceeded 10 trails, but when I do, I hope Lowrance is right about up to a combination total of 100 trails and routes (otherwise I would have to start doing what PIVO was saying above, and that would be a big, BIG Hassel).

Contradictions, Such as life, that is how it should be. You cannot always believe what other folks say (Lowrance for example in the case).

Just except it, I do, (It's what keeps everything in balance, do your own research, trust nothing, until you find the real truth, or learn from your own experiences).

Boogie if you want to, but don’t get upset if others have different viewpoints, and/or try and find the real answers.

That is what makes this site work, and life in general,

Hold on a minute folks. I know medic and know he has all the inside dope on Lowrance units. I'd take his judgement over a tech on the phone because he uses the stuff. If he says 100 then it is 100.

Dayne,

As to Medic's judgement, I think he read 100 trials from a 2008 sales catalog (where as all the owners manuals say 10). Actually I would probably trust the owners manuals over a sales catalog. Not sure if Medic has exceeded the 10 trails threshold personally, but I think we are going to find out for ourselves pretty soon.

But after calling Lowrance today, the Tech Support guys do say 100 total in combination routes and trails. As to 10,000 point in a trail, I beleive the default is set to 2,000 points in a trail, then after 2,000 points, a new trail auto starts up. But I beleive you can change that default to 10,000 points. Don't know why anybody needs to create a trail that long (or that winding, with that many points) but I guess you can if you want or need to.

Maybe it's a little ambiguous perhaps because there is really some max total, waypoints combined with number trails (given how many points/waypoints with in each trail, up to 10,000 each) plus the number of routes you have.

That could be hard to explain (and for us to know within each of our given systems), so as a rule of thumb it's up to 100 routes and trails, plus 1,000 waypoints.

Whatever, I'm thinking 100 trails is most likely about right.

We'll see,

I hope Medic don't get mad and not want to help anymore, I just found this forum last night and you have helped me a ton already. I am upgrading, moving my 520 to the front and putting an lcx 28c hd in console. I have been able to figure out what to do by reading prior posts. Hopefully it will work. will let u know. Thanks in advance

So if I want to keep trails by lake then I can delete all from the unit but that lake and save them in that folder. Reload another lake and do a repeat. Then each time I change lakes I should delete all wpts (which I do now) and all trails, IS THAT CORRECT?

Will It work the same with Icons?

That is correct and yes, you can do the same with the icons.

And if you are into logging your trips you can use the data from your graph to log each trip in Google Earth:
