I have heard those Mr. Clean white eraser things work good, but haven't tried them.

WD 40 works on both cleaning and some what seals at the same time. Do the work a day or so before going fishing to allow cork to asorb or dry. You dont want a rod and reel being pulled out of youre hands.

I've built a few rods and each gets a coat of U-40 Cork Seal.

I got a 4-piece UL for my motorcycle saddle bags last week. First thing I did was put U-40 on the grip.

I second the U40 cork seal. After sealing handles they will clean real easy with a little dawn soap. I have sealed 20 + rods over the years and seal usually last for about three of four years.

Clean purty cork ???? IMHO, I put baitmait on my cork. they don't crack and I think it helps to kill unwanted sent.
but thats just me.

I seal mine with the U40 when the rods are new and they last several years before I need to seal them again.

I leave the plastic on them for as long as It stays in one piece.

I have several of my rod handles wrapped with the rod wrap tape, similar to tennis racket tape. Gives a little better grip. I just wrap the part directly below the reel and the tape will do 2 instead of 1 rod.

I use Simple Green and an old tooth brush. Cleans them up like new. Never tried U-40, but will try some.

This is some of the best stuff I have used. It cleans, and seals. http://www.deloscustomtackleshack.com/professor_cork_magic.html
