I just moved in to my house which is about 2 minutes from rowlett creek. I know that the sandbass run is awesome during the spring but what about crappie? I've heard that people are catching crappie in there too. Any good spots along the creek or would I have to be more towards the lake to find them?

pretty shallow on that end of the lake. creek is the deepest on that end. I would concentrate on the log jams or any piece os structure in the creek. even the creek bends(underwater point).

Im new to crappie fishing so what baits should I use and how should I present them? The water is contantly moving and I've been told that during the fall and winter slow movements are more effective.

You are not seeing many reponses regarding Rowlett Creek because most everyone are having a blast catching them out in the main lake right now. Fishing in the Fall is as good as it gets. Fish are holding well from bridges to brushpiles to docks.
As soon as the weather get a bit cooler consistently, Creek Junkies will gladly post their success, including your backyard Rowlett Creek.
For the time being, I hope I can help answer some of your legit questions if you are new to the sport of crappie fishing. As per an earlier post in this thread regarding log jam and underwater points...that's where you will find your success and then some. Keep in mind that crappie is a specie that does not like moving water, however, it loves to ambush its prey. Knowing that fact, any type of structure in the creek (falling tree/logs..etc..) will be the likely places. A log jam will have spots that slow down the moving water. Another good spot to notice is the creek bends and bank pockets. Look for swirling water at the bend (slow water moving in circle next to the moving stream)...
Using jig tip with some type of bait spray or enhancement serves well for lazy-biting-cold-water crappie. Minnow is always a good alternative if you aren't confident of knowing how to present a jig correctly.
Stay tune for Creek Junkies to add w/ many many tips...
Good luck!

as most of you know, i guide that creek for the bank anglers in feb-march. been doing it for 6 yrs going on 7 next year. i guide for the sandies, NOT the crappie.....
my point is = i always start with the mouth of the creek, where it dumps into Lake Ray Hubbard in december. that way i can track the sandies movements so i can figure out when they will start to show up near pleasant valley (at this time they are all males, 98% of them).i was catching fish 3 years ago at the gun range for 3 weeks in January and limiting within 2 hours, before anyone even showed up there (limiting on sandies ). i literally had the creek to myself for 3 weeks till i saw a soul---- or someone i had guided within those weeks.....

but fishing that much water and finding all the deep pockets, snags, slack water....ect.....- Well, in all that, i run into tons of crappie!!! last year when fishing for the sandies in november-feb, i limited 3 times over in a day, all being caught were anywhere between 7-15ish inches long w/ the occation slab. (all were released) so yes, there are many crappie in there with lots and lots of stucture. i was down there with a friend just messin around with the fly rod preparing for Broken Bow, and i caught about a dozen crappie. only about 4-5 were keepers. biggest being around 12 inches, not big, but they are there. and this weather is looking good so far for a good move to the mouth of the creek and a bit further up. no further than the pipe at the bike trail parking lot area. (hint= bring waders, flippers, warm clothes, and your rod.
i have never tried this time of year though...but i think i will try very soon to see whats there. report will come when i go/
