I wouldnt call it good but wouldnt call it bad either. Its a decent lake but fairly small. Drive a little further east and hit Travis, Austin, or Bastrop.

If you're coming from Waco, why pass up Belton or Stillhouse?Never fished Georgetown, but I hear that you can catch a lot of small fish when it's on.

Georgetown can be a frustrating little lake sometimes, but for the most part its decent.(There are some nice bass in there both smallies and largemouth) I fish it quite often mainly because its the closest one to the house.

We(my dad and I) often make a quick trip down there on Sunday nights and just fish from the shore. I have only been once and not caught something. Weightless flukes and dropshot always seems to pay off. Lots of small fish, but it sure is fun.

Georgetown is a fairly decent little lake. It has been frustrating lately as my dad and I got a little spoiled this summer. The last few trips we usually end up catching 3-4 bass and a handfull of crappie, with the occassional catfish mixed in.
To be honest, I don't really know much about fishing Gtown for catfish, but for crappie it is pretty good. We went at the beginning of the summer about 10 times in a row and caught at least 50 or so crappie, some 12-13 inches. Two seperate trips we pulled in well over a hundred, no exaggeration, with the occasional bass mixed in.
Fishing up at Camp Tejas, on the north end of the lake, in the spring is your best bet for largemouth here. Every time I go in the spring I never walk away without catching at least 3 or 4, sometimes 10-15 or so. A lot of small ones, but I have pulled out a 6.8 pounder and a 5 pounder in that little river.
I agree with an above poster. If you are coming from waco don't drive the extra 30 miles to go to gtown, just stick with stillhouse or belton. If you want to hit up some catfish going east from georgetown towards lake granger isn't a bad idea.
You gotta stick 'em!

Georgetown can be quite a good lake to fish for various species.
Crappie, especially in the spring, can be hot hot hot.
Hybrids and whites also heats up around mid-late March if you focus on the smaller cove entry points.
Largemouth starts to heat up around the same time but really hits full force in April. there are a lot of smaller fish but there are also some big girls to be had.
Catfish can be quite excellent, I've personally witnessed and caught myself stringers of 6-10Lb blues on just chicken livers or cut shad free-lined (No weight, just a single hook) over those same cove entry points fished for hybrids. There is also a very healthy population of large yellows in Georgetown, standard fishing methods apply but I'd fish the upper lake for 'em, standing timber in the coves adjacent to deeper water.

I've never caught a smallie out of Georgetown and wonder if there is even a population in there anymore. Just my personal experience says they went the way of the initial walleye plantings at Georgetown and died off.

Little bitty lake, caught a few out of there. Nothing with any size but still fun. Few years back some friends and I would jump off the rocks into the water...well there was a guy fishing from the bank and had a stringer of hybrids all pretty good size. He was using chicken livers.

Just my personal experience says they went the way of the initial walleye plantings at Georgetown and died off. They have stocked over a 100,000 in the past five years and according to the biologist a small population has maintained since the original stocking years back.though, i have caught only one in the past 5 years, and been in the boat earlier this year when one was caught, but i do here claims that people are catching with some regularity. who know's?

I'll assume they are catching in the lower steeper more rocky section of the lake?
I'd like to catch a smallie, haven't in a while. Not since I lived in Seattle and fished Moses lake in the Eastern half of Washington State. They had some monster Walleye in Moses lake too, upwards to 7-8 Lbs.
