You will probably get several different answers, but when I do sausage I cook indirect heat and turn about every 10 minutes. Probably cook for 30 mins.

I know that most guys do some sort of a beer bath with their brats.

I do a beer bath.

A camp fire may not be a good medium for this type of brat cooking, but it's the only kind I do.

I get a few dark beers and bring them up to about 165. I put in a cubed up onion, an entire head of garlic -smashed- and a cup or so of sauerkraut. I let that go all day long. I mean all day long. Just keep it around 160-165. Then, I throw them on high direct heat and get some good grill marks. That also makes the skin crunchy. Just do it for a minute or so on each side. Don't let them split or they'll be dry.

A good whole mustard, along with a hogie roll, some sauteed onions and bell pepper and you're set. I prefer Dsseldorf mustard.

For a variation, try some kimchi on your brat instead of the onion/bell pepper topping. A little heat to it, but very very good.

The package has the recommeded cooking time on the label. There are several different varieties of Johnsonville Brats. Some are precooked and some aren't. I use the Beer Brats that are precooked. Takes about 10 or 15 minutes on the grill (low heat), turning frequently.
