Question for installing carpet...For floorboard's, I'm using old salvaged aircraft floor board's, strong and very lightweight. I'll water proof and seal the edges, then wrap in plastic (same stuff trucker's use to cover cargo). Would like to install grey outdoor carpet on them. Does a mat of some sort go under the carpet? Would using that spray glue stuff work to adhere the carpet to the board's? Would that outdoor carpet at Lowe's be OK to use, or do I really need marine grade carpet? I want to refrain from drilling hole's in the boat if possible. They will be velcroed to the rib's. Plus weight of equipment will hold them down. Boat is stored outside. Watcha think?

I wouldn't use carpet unless you are wanting a finished look. More than likely, you're going to be beaching the jon boat and climbing on to the bank from off the front. Don't want you to track in a lot of mud and yuck onto good carpet. Use a spray in liner such as armour liner and you'll be much better off.

Thank's Michael. I've never beached it. Too many rock's along the shore in all the place's I fish. Intent is to deaden the metalic clanging noise while fishing. I'm told this spook's fish. I have such bad luck fishing, I need everything in my favor LOL.

Carpet would dappen it somewhat, but don't worry about that so much as having a boat that can get wet/muddy and still be easy to clean. But I would still lean toward armour liner.

I'm working on an aluminum boat right now and will posts the pics when I'm done.

Just use the cheap indoor/outdoor carpet at Lowe's ($6 a roll). No padding underneath and they sell a tub of waterproof carpet adhesive in the same aisle for $12. Seal the wood with some Thompsons water seal then slather the glue on using a putty knife and lay your carpet down. Washes out real easily at the carwash when you get it dirty and slimey. At least thats how I did it and here's how mine turned out:
