If you can still find some big grasshoppers used to kill um on that trip with um worms work too At lake powell last summer i tried that. This is what happened, so i found this big grasshoper and decided to use it as bait, i cast out my line and start waiting, i see my rod start to twich and go and grabed it, i went to set the hook but all i felt was dead weight, i put my finger on the line(huge mistake) and try to feel the fish on it, i feel some twiching and i tell my brother to get the net and the fish takes off and snappes the 10lb line instantly because i had my finger on the on it. I was suprise the line snapped because the drag was loose and didn't realize what happened until i saw my finger bleeding. Huge rookie mistake

I use danny kings or small perch, I have caught alot of fish off of dk's but they tend to be smaller than what I catch off of perch, but I do catch more with dk's

If by chance you can spot a lepoard frog or sometimes call a tree frog, you really shoud try and catch him. The tree frog has been the best bait I have ever used for river fishing. And I have fished rivers for over 40 yrs. Grant you, they don't work worth a darn in a lake, but a catfish won't pass up a tree frog now. But make sure you either cut or step on the frog to get the guts to spill out somewhat. And hold your pole or you might end up loseing it.

If you want to catch all sorts of fish including catfish can't beat nightcrawlers.
Knowing how to fish a river is probably more important than the bait. If you are fishing during the day find timber in the out edge of each bend. Keep moving if the bite slows down (if you feel like it). If a current, fish below the riffles or in the deepest part of the channel with a bobber... let the bait drift until you get bit. I've had better luck w/ Danny Kings in rivers than on the lake, but perhaps due to chumming first.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'm going by Academy this afternoon to get some Danny Kings. I know the river by the back of my hand and all ready have a game plan as to were to try first. I will post some pics on Sunday and with a little luck and all the good advice they'll be pics of fish and not just the scenery.

Chum some soured milo\grains and use puch bait. Chum seems to attract mostly channels. Almost any puch bait will work once you've chummed.

Chicken livers are pretty good for channels. A spool of regular sewing thread is a staple in my tackle box. I use it to "tie" my chicken liver to my hook. Hook the liver, grab your thread, wrap it around the shank (above the liver) several times, then make a few loops around the liver (not too tight, but snug) and back around the shank. Cut the thread, clean your hands (an empty wide-mouth peanut butter jar filled with water works just fine) and you're ready to go. One drawback is that after several baitings the buildup of thread. A sharp knife and a pair of sharp scissors will take care of that.

I just got a weird batch of Danny King's blood at our local WalMart on Saturday. Couldn't get it to the righ consistency to get in on the hook right.
They say adding a little bit of vegetable oil will help but I didn't have any in the boat. I used one blob of the Danny Kings and didn't get a bite. I didn't feel like fighting with it all day so I went back to the other stuff we had.
My brother in law likes Sonny's Super Sticky. Which we buy here at a local pawn shop.
He is the truth, the light and the way.

I hate to say it, but Danny Kings has changed. It just don't work anymore. Period dot.

Wow, I thought that maybe the catfish just simple weren't biting, but the last 3 or 4 times Ive gone I haven't had a single bite on DK's. The previous 3 or 4 times I always caught at least a couple.
You gotta stick 'em!

D Ks is just a WAIST of good money....I keep hearing its better, Ive tried 3 tubs of it all no good didnt stink at all, seemed like cotton and grease and red dye not blood. Last one was in boat a couple of months, after this cool spell opened it an had about a inch of grease on top, scraped it off mixed a thing of catfish charlies pole cracker in and it and it worked. Think Ill just try catfish charlies and dryer lint whole lot cheaper than that d k [censored]. DIDNT BUY IT TILL ABOUT 2 MONTHS AFTER THEY SAID IT WAS ALLRIGHT SO DONT WAIST YOUR MONEY
