I understand that live shad are not sold in bait shops and am desperately needing about 48 shad for live bait on saturday morning. I am taking my wife on a fishing trip from the shore and would like to see if anyone is planning on gathering any bait that morning from a boat. I do not have a bait net and would not expect my wife to wade in the water with me to attempt to catch it. If anyone is cathing bait that morning could I possibly buy some shad from you. Is this legal? LOL. Any help would be appreciated. I want my wife to have fun catching alot of fish...

its not legal to buy or sell without a license. Giving it away would be ok.. just dont ask to buy it

If anyone would like to make a charitable donation of shad to me I would gladly make a donation to their lunch fund!! lol... seriously though any good samaritan that could help would be a life saver.

You know, your not all that far from grapevine lake. It takes no time at all to go over to the bubbles, throw your net 1 time and get more than enough shad. They'll keep overnight. Especially now that it's getting cool outside.

Launch at Katie Woods ramp

Head straight for the damn - about 200 or so yards from the ramp.

Looking at the damn, counting telephone poles from the right, I think about 3 or 4 poles from the right you'll find the bubbles.

Can't miss it. Look for boats parked on top of one another, birds diving and bubbles. don't let your net sink to far down or you'll come up with a bunch of sandies.

And,
Assuming that your going to put in a bait tank or live well, crack the lid open while it sits overnight. And don't forget the salt!

Holzer, if I understood his first post correctly, then he probably doesn't have a boat, hence his "fishing...from the shore." But couldn't he get some shad from whatever marina is nearest to where he plans to fish at Texoma Sat morning? I've caught shad off the docks at the Sheppard Annex on the west side of Texoma.

And if I can catch shad, then anyone can.

If you have a cast net, you can go to Simmons Shores and throw from the boat dock. Where on the lake, do you plan on fishing?

i was thinkin about somewhere near big mineral camp. is that near there?

i will pick up a cast net tonight maybe academy will have them.. basspro and cabelas do not. I couldnt believe that. you have to order them from their catalog. But i will go anywhere i can get some good baitfish.

I guess I need to slow down and read a little....

Walmart also has cheap nets. If you dont throw one much a four foot is easy and a three foot is too small.
