Guys, unless they have stopped doing it.....The restraunt at the BPS out by D/FW airport had all the walleye you can eat at lunch time on Wednesday's I believe it was, for less than ten dollars. It was okay, but the one time I ate there, I told them they should have offered the filets dipped in Uncle Bucks spicy batter, instead of just the plain batter. For all you guys who think Walleye are such great eating....I need to prepare you some nice tender cold water filets of, Green Lipped Sucker Mouth Carp.....You would throw rocks at both crappie and walleye after a plate of these!! MMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm!!! ------------------ Mike www.WhiskerKitty.com

Lake Georgetown had been stocked when it first opened. Have seen some fishers working Russell Park area. Lake Travis had been stocked in the 70's as an experiment. TPWD was hoping that both lakes would be cool enough at depth for them to establish themselves. Don't think either lake has had any reproduction. I did hook one on Travis around 1982 or so while bass fishing. It hit a white spinner bait. Without a leader, my 8lb test didn't have a chance and lost him at the boat. Would have been nice eatin if I had landed it. Probably was around 2lb.

And speaking of toothy critters, you can fish for northern pike in Town Lake in Austin. State record northern is 18lb and some change and was caught there. I have landed one there myself.

Welcome to Texas, but if you want walleye you need to be prepared to drive.
Canyon lake (your closest option) still has a few walleye but you will have to work hard to find them.
The other lakes in Texas with fishable populations of walleye are Meredith, White River, Greenbelt, Diversion, and Palo Duro.
Meredith (near Amarillo) is by far the best walleye fishery in the state and even better than some up north. The population is self-sustaining. There is a consumption advisory for walleye, but you would have to eat two 8 ounce meals per month for years before there would be an increased risk.
Greenbelt (near Clarendon) also has a self-sustaining population and a good fishery.
White River (near Crosbyton) is maintained through stocking. A recent netting (last week) showed the majority of fish are over 24 inches.
Palo Duro Reservoir (near Spearman) has been stocked with walleye and they have grown well, but we have not documented any reproduction yet. We are setting nets tonight to find out how the walleye are doing.
Walleye have essentially disappeared from the remainder of lakes that were stocked by TPWD.

I caught one back some 15 years ago fishing under the bridge for Crappie in Ray Hubbard. Have not herd any reports within the last few years of any others caught!
If you like fish with teeth, you can catch all the Gar you want .

Cypress Springs used to claim to have some, but I have never caught any there or heard anyone (that I would believe) say they have.

I've found mixed reports that say walleye are in Canyon lake, but I've also heard there aren't any this far South. I'm about to go crazy not being able to fish for them, if anyone has any info I loved to hear it.

Don't know if there are any left, with the severe drought that we have been going thru, but the New Ballinger Lake, located in Ballinger,Tx., was loaded with walleye. The TPWD was trying to make a walleye lake out of this impoundment, then the drought hit. The largest walleye i personally saw come out of this lake was over 10 ponds in late 1990. There have been several in the 6 to 8 lb. range. Only problem now is that the boat ramps are not useable. Bank fishing is all that's available. Hopefully when the lake fills back up, the TPWD will restock!!!

Canyon Lake Wallye? There used to be quite a few untill TPWD gill netted most of em out.It seems every year just before a big TPWD shindig, they would run a "fish survey" targeting Wallye down by the dam. Turned a decent fishery into a not very good one for Wallye. These are the same guys who will look you in the eye and tell you stripers don't eat small black bass.
