What is the Navionics Hot Map for PC that costs around $20.00 used for?
Can you use it to pull up maps of lakes on your PC so you can study them? I don't have a Navionics chip or unit that uses one.

The HotMaps Explorer is for viewing and planning only. The only thing that you can upload to a GPS unit or plotter are waypoints and routes. I should add that you only need a unit that will accept uploads of waypoints and routes via memory card, etc.. Here is an excerpt from Navionics FAQ; "With Navionics HotMaps Explorer software one can use the included 10,000+ lake maps, or any of the optional High Definition lakes to plan a fishing trip on the PC, print paper copies of lake maps, view lakes in 3D, and create waypoints and routes for transfer to leading GPS or chart plotters. Only waypoints and routes may be transferred to and from a GPS receiver." Same offer as yesterday, here is the link for this product with 10% taken off already. Use SAVESHIP5 for $5 off. Dennis, let me make sure i understand because I am slow on all this new stuff. I can buy the Navionics Explorer put it on my computer at home, save some waypoints and then transfer it to my Lowerance unit on the boat? Is the explorer the same type of maps on the 2008 chip?

yes... you can do that. the explorer program comes with one free HD lake map download. for additional ones, you can pay a small fee to see other lakes in HD format. you will still see all the lakes that are on the CD, just not all are in HD (1' contours) format.

What Skeeter said. This allows you to look at the lake maps on your computer, plot out a course using waypoints and upload those waypoints to a plotter and/or print out a map. What this doesn't do is upload the actual map to your plotter. You do not need a map card to use the waypoints feature. Any plotter that supports uploads of waypoints whether it has the map on it or not will work. Happy Fishing! -Dennis

So I hate to keep asking but I am trying to learn. I have a 2007 chip and hopefully might buy another boat this week that has the 2008 chip in its unit. Tell me what I would need to be able to look at the lakes I am going to on the computer at home, then mark some way points and then get it to my Global Lowarance unit in the boat? Sorry for the questions. Thanks, Chad

if you just want to pull your chip out of your unit and view it on the PC- you will need the "NavPlanner" kit. you put your map chip in one of its slots, and your SD card in the other slot(on the NavPlanner) and then you can manage your waypoints/routes. You can view all the lakes on that chip in whatever format they are programmed in(HD or regular format). If you need further help, call my cell at (817)903-1024.
