We are headed down to Freeport this weekend and I was wondering where the best bait shop is. Looking for piggys and/or croaker. I would also like some squid if it is available.

Maybe that's why he's asking and not for the smart remark. Why don't some of you keep your comments to your self.

I answered with the quality of answer that fit the quality of the question.

From the MOB to LA is destroyed. There is some frozen bait available at a couple of the baithouses that are trying to sell stuff out of the parking lot from ice chests. If you are looking for fresh dead or live bait, then you better bring your own way to catch it.

There are not piggys/porgies/croaker/shrimp to be had. You'd better stop off in houston at a grocery store and buy some shrimp if that is what you want. Good luck getting anywhere near the coastline without proper proof of residency.

You may be more welcome if you bring your chainsaw, broom, wheelbarrow and energy and help with some of the clean up to the needy instead of worrying about where to get bait in the area at this time.

Whatever you decide, good luck.

I have spoken with the City Secretary of Quintana and she said the beach is completely open to the public. The portion of the Surfside website that stated that only residents were allowed on the island has been removed and the curfew was lifted Monday afternoon. From that, I would assume the beach is open to the public.

I will be bringing my casting net and since you stated no one is selling anything I suppose I will also bring some frozen shrimp and squid.

Greg, you didn't really come across right on your first two posts, but you're definitely the man for your last one.

Not everybody knows exactly how much devastation the coast and the people who live there have had to endure, and the black out of bad media reports by the government hasn't helped their cause any.

I just got back from Surfside. Bridge Bait is shut down and the ramp is closed but there are 2 bait shops just North of the bridge to Surfside that are open. Live mullet, mud minnows, and shrimp are available. Plenty of fresh dead ribbon fish, stingray, and shrimp are available too.

Caught 4 black tips that were about 2.5' - 3' from where we camped on Surfside. Only boat ramp we could find was under the 36 bridge in Quintana so we launched from there and headed out the Freeport shipping channel but there were like 5' waves at the end of the jetties so we came back into the channel and caught 20 or so 6-10lb gaftops. No reds or anything else but it was still fun as hell. The curfews are gone and there is a lot of debris on the beach but didn't see much in the water.
