Nice flathead . Did you get a weight? I'll have to start using crankbaits for kittys.

It was a H2O express crankbait from Academy. It was a dark red and black crawdad colored med runner. I wish I knew exactly what model, but I can't remember. It was the larger size.
Yup!

I did not weigh it, but I am guessing 12-15 pounds. We actually caught 3 yellows that night. All of them on crankbaits. We have always caught yellows while fishing for bass at Fayette. We only fish it at night though, so I am sure that has something to do with it.
Yup!

I knew of siome guys in nebraska who trolled crankbaits to catch yellows, worked well for them. I may give it a try, but im afraid of snagging and losing a lot of baits...that could get expensive real quick!

Dang I wish I could get lucky and get a flat to bite a crankbait. I have fished bass a lot and never had it happen to me. I love me some yellowcat. It is by far my favorite fish to eat. Nice catch.

I think I know the area you were fishing on Fayette to catch that yellow. I have caught several on crank baits there. None that big, 12 lbs was the largest. A guide I know says he and his clients catch a yellow there almost every trip.

In the spring and fall catching yella's on crank bait is very common. Even jigs and worms will catch them, They feed alot these times of year. Thats when I fish lines baited with live perch for them. I catch and release most of the bigger fish and just keep a few for eating anymore. Got to love landing big fish on bass tackle though!!
