I have got to get a GPS. I would like to get a handheld one so I could use it for hunting also. Is there a HH GPS that takes chips like the Navionics or is this standard on most. I have no exper. w/ GPS's. When saving coord. can you use a diff. chip(SD card) for each lake and then change out chips when on a certain lake? How do you keep track of so many spots when they are on diff. lakes? Thanks!!!Allen

I recently got a Garmin 60csx. You can get water body maps for the US that are supposed to be pretty good although I've never seen em. It has a place for a SD Card so you'll never run out of room. I use mine for hiking and geocaching and the thing is spot on. Very accurate. Some say this is the most accurate GPSr you can get for under 300. Major stores carry this for upwards of 400+ but if you do some searches on the net, you can find it for under 300. Good luck.

I'll throw out an ex. If I am going to G-Vine can I get a SD card and label it GV and use it lo load all the spots, then if i go to Ray Bob can I put another card in labeled RB and use it for those spots and so on? Then when I get ready to go just grab the card I need and go and just those coord. from that lake will be on the card. Is this not really ness. an overkill or what?

I bought the Lowrance I Finder H20 in color with the hot chip and it does not seem that simple to use. How do you mark your spots and save them? Will the contours show up on a lake that is stored on the chip once you are on that body of water? I am thinking I spent over $400.00 for something that is hard to use. Please Help????

I'm guessing with the Garmin 60csx you'll probably have enough memory on a 2G card to store all the lakes in the US PLUS all your points you mark. None of that grabbing a different card for each lake. Again, I don't know how detailed the lake maps are. I'm betting the H2O has better detail but if you also want to use it for hunting, the Garmin would probably be the way to go. One issue with the Garmin 60csx is you have to buy the unit plus the maps you want. Right now, I only have the base map that comes with the unit but I'll eventually get lake maps, topo maps and street maps. Each set of maps is about 100 extra. When you get the street maps, it will give you driving directions, which is cool. If all you want to do is mark waypoints and not get lost, you don't need any extra maps. I used it this past weekend for a geocaching hike that took me about 5 miles along trails I don't know. It was easy to follow the gps track back to the starting point. Without it, I'd probably still be out there! Try searching this site for more information... GPS INFO

I have a Garin Street pilot that has an SD slot. I have often wondered if I could download lake maps into it and make it work.

Be advised that the above ad is for a 60CX and not a 60CSX. There are minor differences between the two.

The only difference between the 60CS and the 60CSX are that the 60CSX includes an electronic compass and barometric altimeter sensor. Other than that the two units are identical.
Happy Fishing!
