The world record football stadium dB level is 128, this puppy puts out 120 dB and has a strobe light. You sure wouldent make friends at the hotel when this thing goes off, but hey, if it stops a theif we will all thank you What is everyones thoughts. I have some pros and cons but want to see everyones input first. http://www.defensedevices.com/strobmotdeta.html

The device looks like it has to be mounted in plain view for the strobe and the motion detector to work. If the unit is surface mounted, made of plastic and visible, I would bet it can be silenced and disabled rather quickly.
I would prefer a system that utilizes door switches for storage compartments, motion sensor for movement of the boat, a siren that can be disabled, a brain that is installed in a non visible location that runs off of the boat batteries and a remote notification so that when I am inside, the siren can be disabled, and I will be notified when someone is trying to break into the boat.
my .01 cents

Seems like a standard car alarm could be adapted to a boat.

Stephen--I got one of those units for my garage after having a couple of trimmers lifted from the garage. Didn't seem to have enough side to side range to be really effective. It is VERY loud though. Also, the delay timer seems a little long for me. Someone could take something and be have way down the alley before it finally went off. Also, seemed to go through batteries fairly fast.
If you are coming through San Angelo any time soon, I will sell you mine with the extra remote for $25. Last time batteries went down and I never replaced them---just started being sure garage stayed closed.

Seems like a standard car alarm could be adapted to a boat. it could very easily, with a little creative placement of the switches and brain. Stephen- those things WORK! my boss bought some for this place before the actual alarm was installed.... you CAN NOT get close enough to them to disable them without being in pain. they are super loud, and its a wirey/ear piercing sound that hurts your ears very bad.... i tried to turn one off after it was going off.... two of those (one on each end of the boat) and the sukspect wont be able to do anything except run.... the strobe light is very bright too and blinds you.

I know of a product that is very cool and works similar to a motion detector. It is about the size of a box of playing cards and has a keypad on the face with a 120db piercing siren. How it works is simple. Once you arm the device, if will give a 30 second delay before fully arming. The device will sense any movement and activate. For example, if placed on the deck of a boat, should someone climb aboard or open compartments, the alarm will activate. You could also attach the device to a boat cover and if someone should attempt to remove the cover the alarm would activate. I will try and find some of these as the price was around $30 bucks.

I am trying to locate the manufacturer. The company I originally bought it from is ofcourse out of business. Give me a day or two to see what I can find. If I find the product I am looking for then I will make a bulk buy and have them available. Yes ScottABA please post your specifics.
Thanks,

BassCat puts an alarm on their premium boats and I am sure you could buy the pod and module from them. Call Rockwall Marine and I am sure they could get the stuff and do the install. I don't think they are cheap but it works extremely well.

This one may not be the answer but its on the right track. Installed boat alarms are to expensive, i think Fire Fox has a good one but its over a grand and they have to install it, and no clue where there business is at. Plus im not going to go through the expense or pain of that every year.
Something compact, makes a lot of noise, motion sensor or tilt sensor is what I want.

Boat Alarm; I have been putting a Alarm on my team boat for the past 3 years a the cost of $375.00 and it come with a pager, you can get the same system for $285.00 with out the pager. I have had some of my buddy try to get in my boat and NO one has made it yet. You cant even get the Prop off the boat with out it go off. Every one of my rods and reels cost more than $375.00. It has 2 motion sensor and some door switches and a back-up batter. Some of my buddy have paint ball stain on them.!!!!!!

I had Patterson Customs Audio systems help me come up with a Customs Alarm system for my boat, we came up with 2 motion / vibration sensor , one in the rear and one in the mid boat area and 3 door switches and they came up with a pager that works with the Alarm system. Motion sensor pick up on any movement. Vibration sensor pick up on any loud sound. Switches pick up on and opening of rod box or any of the other 2 boxes.
Patterson in Marshall TX Help me do this.
