I have recently moved to an area that has a lake near by that has Reds. (Fairfield)
Can those of you who catch reds in freshwater give me some tips on how to catch them?
Lures? Live bait? Structure? Any tips would be much appreciated.

Jackie is in Fairfield right now so he may not see your post. His number is 903-603-3793. In one day He can teach you everything you need to know about the reds in Fairfield to begin catching them yourself.

Jackie and I both have tunnel hull boats and we can get in and out, but I wouldn't suggest trying it with a v-hull. The fishin is still good!!

Are you trying to fish from a boat or shoreline? What kind of boat if it is boat. Does you boat have a depth gauge, or a GPS map?
Fresh water reds do not get to eat the same diet. They do NOT fish like salt waters. Some of the same salt water lures work, but only some. I have been fishing Fairfield steady for over 5 years now and have yet to see my first "tailing".
For baitred fsihing JackieBlue will teach you everything you need to know and the show you the gear you need to have for his boat style of fishing. I figure from my Dallas location his trip costs about two trailering to the lake, and saves leaving frustrated after those two trips having caught very little, learned little on your own or had your current tackle all busted up. Jackie is organizing trips for two guys who want to share the expense.
Jackie will teach you to fish live or cut bait found in the lake. Others use shrimp or frozen shad and Jackie's methods. Minimum 5/0 hooks, 6's or 7's are even better, 30# line minimum, use big spools ABU 6500 like in size, set up these heavy duty "Carolina" rigs and fish the bottom or a float in open water above the thermocline. The thermocline runs from 10 to 18 ft as you go north up the lake.
Find'm, Hook'm, Reel'm, Measure'm, Weigh'm, Smile with'm, Release'm and Thank Him. Don

I may try fishing from the bank a few times but Im looking to get my boat down here. Im a little worried I have heard that the lake is low and there are a lot of obstructions.
