Anyone know how the beach driving is going on Big Shell Beach. Heading down there on the 3rd thru the 5th of Oct. and was wondering if anyone knew how the beach conditions and fishing were? Heading all the way down to the channel so any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Water has started to clear on the north end, north of the 10. Gets dirty further south with a lot of good structure around the 19 full of dead wash weed. Reports from south to the 40 was that it was still dirty and weedy. Plenty of Mullet being worked over in the guts. Think it should improve pretty quick as it has north of Packery. Did here of some Reds being caught one at 36 inches at the 8MM. The Y is blocked and will take a lot of work to clear before it opens. http://nickawaymedia.com/phpBB3/viewtopi...10de8272836a304

Only a couple of more days until our trip to Big Shell. Anyone have anymore fishing reports or beach condition reports. We will be heading all the way down to the jettis, so any info on that would be great. Thanks and have a great day!

"The water is clear and very little weed. Driving is fine until the 19 and then it gets bad. No weed north of the 20. Water has dropped back so plenty of dry places to camp. Birds working heavy around the 12 mainly large Lady's which were great on the fly rod. Pomp came south of the 19, not many but when you find them enough to make it worth while, very healthy fish that fight well, females have got eggs. The big males again getting air and giving the 10/6 and new sinker a nice ride. Did see schools of medium size jacks around the 20. It was a great day on the beach, weather is good for camping except for those big biting flies. Regards Nickaway" Go to: http://nickawaymedia.com/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=1&sid=44ec58d9998574d91510167bf4880d39Nick has daily beach reports...And take his advice, to have 2 vehicles going past the 19MM...Many people getting stuck, and flat tires from all the debris...Lots of lumber with nails... Good Luck...

Thanks man. Do you think the beach will be crowded all the way down to the jettis or past the 40 mile marker?

3. Tournament boundaries are from the entrance of Padre Island National Seashore to the beach just north of the Port Mansfield Jetties. All fish must be hooked, fought and landed from the beach. No fish caught from piers, jetties, or any other structure will be allowed for entry. No fish caught while in a kayak or motorized craft will be accepted as a valid entry.
Well it looks like they are not allowed to fish the jetties so that gives you a little room if you where wanting to fish from the rocks.. But there is 400 participants spread out over 55 miles.. Thats a camp setup every 1/8th of a mile.. So yes Expect alot of people out there.. But if you dont mind a real long drive down im sure you would get some nice scenery and be able to check out all the sweet shark camps / setups.. Make sure you bring some patches for your tires / plugs and some sort of compressed air source. There is alot of wood with nails out there.. Good luck and have a great time..

Made it all the way down the to the jettis with NO trouble. Had four trucks and had no problems with any of them. Take it slow if your going down there and you shouldn't have any problems. I caught two reds that were 24.5 inches, and 3 specks, 19, 20, and 21 inches. And a lot more smaller ones that just missed the mark. But had a great time. But fair warning if you ever go back behind the jettis at the Mansfield Channel. The Mosquitos are horrible. They were all over us. But not that bad around the jettis. Great fishing and great weather. Take care and have fun.
