Could someone tell me if you were looking for a motor as I am and came across this would it be worth taking a look at with the information they have given? He wants $1800.00 for the motor 1999 200HP MERCURY OUTBOARD MOTOR WITH A 25" SHAFT THE MOTOR IS A TWO STROKE, DIRECT FUEL INJECTED, OIL INJECTED OUTBOARD WITH POWER TRIM AND TILT. THE FUEL MIX IS CONTROLLED BY A COMPUTER SO THEY RUN SMOOTH AND STRONG THROUGHOUT THE RPM RANGE. THESE OPTIMAX MOTORS ARE QUIET AND PRODUCE VERY LITTLE SMOKE. THEY ARE A PLEASURE TO OPERATE AND THEY SAVE CONSIDERABLE MONEY AT THE GAS PUMPS. THE DDT MACHINE SHOWS IT HAS ONLY 531 HRS. MECHANICALLY THIS MOTOR IS IN GREAT SHAPE. COMPRESSION WAS 115-118 FOR ALL SIX CYLINDERS. IT FIRES UP AT THE TURN OF A KEY, IDLES QUIET AND SMOOTH. IT PUMPS PLENTY OF WATER AND WHEN YOU HIT THE THROTTLE IT DEFEINTLY SOUNDS STRONG. COSMETICALLY IT SHOWS WELL. ALL ORIGINAL PAINT AND DECALS AND THEY STILL LOOK REAALLY GOOD. TRIM AND TILT WORKS AS IT SHOULD. IF IN THE MARKET FOR A LOW HOUR CLEAN FUEL SAVING LARGE HP MOTOR THEN LOOK NO FURTHER. THIS ONE BOTH LOOKS AND RUNS GREAT. PROP AND CONTROLS ARE INCLUDED!!!!

depends on what kind of boat your putting it on.
that is a salt water motor. that's why it has the blue stripping on it, and it being a 25" shaft. Hopefully you're putting it on a deep hull.
GOOD price, and good comp. #'s.

i saw that engine on craigslist. sounds too good to be true, in my opinion. price is way too low for the way it's described. and buying a rebuilt merc200 in similar year model would cost easily 7-8k. seems too good to be true, or they got it and wiped it off and trying to turn a profit.... let us know how it works out.

Thats what I thought but I don't know very much about it. My motor blew last week and I was given a cost of about $7000.00 to rebuild my EFI Mariner 200. Thanks for the information.

Wonder if it is the first of the hurricane boat motors we are going to be seeing.. Salt water? Will motor taken off the boat have to be salvaged if the hull is totaled?

Like previously stated, that motor will NOT work on a bass hull, or anything else requiring a 20" (L) shaft motor.
You have no idea of the pain involved in trying to make an XL work on a bass hull, it ain't worth it. Not at all.

Have to agree with Pat on the Optimax it is a pain to change to 20in. unless you get lucky and run across one with the power head blown. Mwerner look here : http://www.screamandfly.com/home/ for a replacement power head. I would buy a rebuilt 2.5 200hp and use all of my accessories. 7000.00 is way out of line. What happened to your motor? As long as it dos`nt have a hole in it your motor can be fixed for a lot less, like 1/2 that.
