I have a feeling that all of the ramps that I normally use to fish saltwater were destroyed by Ike. I was really looking forward to the fall Bull Red fishing this year. Granted my pain is minor compared to the owners of property down there. I recently rediscovered the convenience of buying bait and launching on the Texas City Dike, which was blown away by Ike and described with an article and a picture in the Houston Chronicle this morning. My families summer vacation has been renting a beach front house on the Bolivar Peninsula every summer for most of the last 15 years, launching or wading wherever the wind and water conditions looked best, beachfront or bay. Eating at Momma Teresa's Flying Pizza and Stingaree Marina. It really hurts to think those places probably aren't there anymore. Somebody emailed us a link to before and after photos of Crystal Beach, and I recognized some of the houses we've rented over the years in the before photos, reduced to timber piles in the sand in the after photos. So sad. My heart goes out to those who owned them.

The only positive things that could come out of this are reduced fishing pressure for the next year or longer, which should allow the fish to grow into monsters, and the beach rentals will be new. The clean up of everything blown away is beyond my comprehension however, and I can't imagine how long it will take for me to put together the courage to run my boat through the bay or beachfront full throttle. So sad.

I live 10 minutes from Sabine Lake which flooded Bridge City. The water in the lake still has a sheen on it and the surrounding marsh is full of debris. I'm seriously considering selling my bay boat and going back to bass fishing.

Managed to get a couple of hours in yesterday in Trinity Bay. Brought home 2 Reds, 25 & 26". Caught 6 trout, all released. A buddy caught about 15 trout earlier in the week near the Yacht Club in his Kayak, kept 4. Gonna try the Spillway in Trinity this weekend, heard of some Reds being caught there. there is a lot of debris on the shorelines, I saw sofa's, appliances, Seadoos all kinds of wood and timber. Be careful, there is no doubt a lot of submerged stuff that wasn't there before Ike.

The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.

I am headed out this weekend myself. I plan to do some fishing and check out some of my used to be "honey holes". We shall see what Ike left behind.

Went again Saturday. Started at Thompsons, still no power there, but the ramp is open. We went all the way to Jacks with a few stops in between. Weather was perfect, water was nice and clear except for a few spots, not as much debris as we were expecting. Saw a few large logs floating, someones overturned boat is near Fishers, other than that it was beautiful. Trinity is in pretty good shape. Oh yeah, the fishing was fantastic!
