I am new to Denton, retired Navy, with a 6 y/o begging to go fishing for cats. Being from San Diego we only have stock lakes with no natural fish all around 2 Lbs except the hold overs. Can anyone help me to a place were I can take him, not deal with the large turtle population, and get him some fish he can bring home to his mother. We have all the gear to include float tubs but no direction to go in. Any help would be great.

Ray Roberts and lake lewisville are in your area.

I dont know much about the cats in those lakes, but you might be able to find more info doing a search, and by checking the catfish section.

You might pullup the area on googlemaps and pick a couple of holes and hit em.

No kidding! Retired Navy here also, been here for a little over a year so some of the other questions, like VA and so whats I can help you with. Cats, well my luck with cats has been in east Texas. I haven't fished around here with cats much but I did see a guy pulling some out down near the Little Elm marina.

Grapevine man.
Right there by you.
Just go to any park, look for a 'good spot' and throw something in.

Calling fishing a hobby is like calling brain surgery a job.

go east on University or also know as 380 and then north on bonnie brea, there will be a pond on your right and if u go right at the 4way stop sign, there will be another pond on up but you have to get around a damn. that is where north lakes park is.

Oh yeah and watch out for snakes they are really bad up there.

From the satellite view it looks well kept as far as the grass goes. Might want to explore it prior to taking my 6 y/o. Never know what might happen if he gets bored and wanders off. Thanks for the info will try sometime this week.

Anyone going out on Friday looking for Cats that might like company? Looking to get my line wet but hate fishing alone.

Made it out today with the wife and kids not in school. She took me to some park off the 121 and was able to get my line wet. In the first 5 minutes I have around a 3.5 LB channel. Over the next hour and a half while the kids played I was able to land 7 and released all but one which had the hook so far down I think he was trying to give it back. That one was 19.5 inches. I feel I could have done better if I had not started fishing at noon, but after watching the wind and current what little there was I did OK. I'm going to try it in the early morning and stick around until I get tired with no kids to watch on the playground.

Try the 380 Greenbelt Park off of the Trinity river between lake Lewisville and Lake Ray Bob. Its just East of Loop 288. I released a 28lb Blue cat in there last year that I caught from Ray Bob. She was full of eggs.
