Darn soon we will have to turn in our man cards @ the door. And take a purse from the greeter just to walk in the door there.
The W.M. in Forney has just about cleared out of all items. The clerk said they are still going to sell, just less of a selection. Now I have another reason to go to BPS.

I buy absolutely nothing outdoor related from Wallyworld. Out of sheer principle. But, then again, I go to a Walmart about two times a year. I hate those stores, standing in line, their business practices, and what they do to small business. The whole concept is UnAmerican. It is capitalism at it's best, I grant them that. But it ain't for me.

My wife shops there, but without me. I'll go to four different stores, and pay more money before I'll set foot in Walmart.

Watch Out!! My Walmart had the Trilene MAXX on sale for $5 - just one problem:
Most of the spools had at least HALF of the line gone!! Like someone spooled up and then returned it! That is sorry.

Walmart sux.

After Sam Walton died, and they ousted the last of the original board-members, Walmart has become a vehicle that helps outsource our jobs, make America more "Politically Correct," and eliminate outdoorsmen. Their recent acceptance of Michael Bloomberg's mandatory videotaping of any firearm transaction only highlights this fact.

Frankly, I'm glad they're no longer going to carry hunting and fishing supplies. All the more reason to take our American dollars elsewhere.

The biggest problem with WalMart fishing department was they tried to use mass retailing rather than gearing it toward what local fisherpeople wanted to buy.

Just more opportunity for Academy. Been buying most of my stuff from them for awhile now. They usually are competitive with Wal-Mart, somtimes cheaper, with much better selection.

Talked with the dpartment managers at both my local stores(Temple/Belton) and got the same explanation at both places. Apparently the stores near lakes will not change and the others are phasing down to accomodate "seasonal" trends. This is Texas, who ever heard of seasonal fishing around here?

that would make sense up where i live in minnesota, cause in the wintertime it's all ice fishing, but definetly not here!

The big new Walmart in Lubbock started putting items on sale just after Labor Day. I bought a Dotline rubber dip net regular $27.99 for $13.00 then went back 2 days later & bought the last one they had for $7.00. I bought Berkly invisable floracarbon line for $5.00 Per roll. They have had some rod/reel combos for 1/2 price.
I check back every 2 or 3 days for the good buys.
I got the impression from the people that I talked to in the store that it was a seasonal thing.

A bad day on the lake is much better than a good day at work!

I've been stopping by the Walmarts around here every couple of days too. I think I've bought enough line to last me 10 years easy LOL.

I'm betting they'll have shelf space shared between hunting and fishing perhaps? Well, I am sure they will not be clearing out Abu Garcia Reels and CXX Pline every fall, although perhaps lower end items.

I assumed those "shake up" battery-less flash lights weren't worth buying. Well at 3 dollars a pop they are. They work surprisingly well.
