Right. Wal-Mart announced months ago that they were going to greatly reduce the size of their fishing department. I'm lucky to have both Academy and Cabela's nearby.

The Walmart in Taylor has never had a very good selection. The Walmarts down on the coast like the one in Aransas Pass are loaded with fishing equipment. Including the TTF rods which are my new favorites for inshore species. I've left my castaway and falcon rods at the house on the last few trips.

I'd rather be fishing.

Looks like the Walmart (newer one) is downsizing or eliminating the fishing department. They did not have a lot left but I did pick up a Berkley Lightning Rod for my spinning reel at a decent price.

I think the older Lewisville Walmart has a better fishing department. I don't do Walmart all that often but I hope they don't do away with all the fishing gear...

I have seen neither Tyler, Longview, or Kilgore clear anything out in the fishing depts yet.

The one in PLANO @hwy 121 is also down sizing it fishing stuff. From 4 rods to 1 rod, no hooks, 6 worms, 2 top water baits, 1 thing of fishing line.. crazy

Bought some nice rods and reels out of the Lewisville(3002) store 1/2 price. Life jackets went for 75% off. Some guy loaded up all they had. From what I have been told the down size is mainly in the Metro sections of the state. Most small town and isolated bigger cities such as Tyler, Longview, will keep there supplies. As long as there is an Academy near by I will be ok. It is nice to run into your local Walmart and grab some hooks and weights. Someone seriously needs to look into putting an Academy in Denton.(hint, hint) With over 120K population and two major lakes spliting the city it would make a killing. The Sports Authority in Denton is a joke when it comes to fishing supplies.

Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

I know at the store on Cooper in Arlington the fishing department has been reduced. It's my understanding that it will be seasonal so we will carry more stuff in the spring.

They do this EVERY year. This time every year on here we have the same story.
