what they said. fishing is something that will always be around. go to college get a degree start a life and make money. during that time buy a boat, become more competitive, get to know more people and start putting beating on folks. that will draw peoples attention. if your just wanting free stuff then email people and make up lies.

start saving all you information, and create a fishing resume- add to it each year as you progess. google "fishing resume" to get ideas on what you need to have in them. and then follow MrBass24's reply.

Join the U.S. Armed Forces, fish abroad, (travel is free) and enjoy every cast (between deployments)...If my company could afford to sponsor a young gun, I would. If I could and had a stack of resumes, I'd look for a vet. That's not negative in my book.

You don't have to have a bass boat. Mike Iaconelli started from a little Coleman boat and a trolling motor.

Always remember, it is not what the sponsors can do for you, it's what you can do for them. Good Luck! JR

Marry a rich girl whose daddy has a bad boy boat.... Then you wont have to work hard for it!!!!

If I had it to do over that is the route I would have taken!!!!!

But really Casey has wrapped it up!!!!

Casey summed it up. The one thing to remember is not to ask, "What can you do for me?" You need to be able to tell the sponsors what YOU can do for THEM! I read a lot of resumes and they all pump themselves up. Hardly any of them tell me what they can do for me! Be positive and NEVER give up. Personal appearance and how you present yourself to the public and sponsors has a lot to do with getting sponsorships. No cussing, drinking at the weigh-in site, dress nice, clean cut and talk with confidence. Don't brag and be humble. Help others learn and get involved with benefits. Guess that just about sums up what I look for!

You can get some pointer from sponsorshipresumeservice.com Also you can post your resume for companies to see for FREE! They are in the process of hooking of with all kinds of companies that are looking for new ways of marketing. They will also put together a resume for you, but they do charge a fee for that. I suggest fishing as a non-boater. You will still have some added cost besides the entry fee, but you will learn a ton, and maybe win enough to get you a boat. If you ever have any questions just hollar.

People are telling you to join the service...thats great.....but if you sighn up for the army, navy, marines you just might get shiped off and not find that much time to fish, i joined the coast guard and got to fish alot of great places from state to state. but i advise stay in college......take some marketing classes, that will teach you alot and give you a head start

i have a book that i bought, well its like 30 pages, and it is titled "how to get sponsored" i have read it over and over, i got the idea now, but just have to find time to put it all together. pm me your address and i will send it to you

I know of several guys that fish ONLY as co-anglers and have sponsors. What they do is fish the bigger draw tournaments like BFL, Stren, BASS Weekend, etc. (That can show what you can really do outside your home lake.) You might find some local companies to sponsor you. I fished with one young 17 year old that had several sponsors because he wrote fishing articles for a youth magazine around Toledo Bend. Maybe get a personal website where companies can see you and how you communicate. Although it really helps to be at the top of the fishing game to be noticed, you can also help yourself by offering your help for outdoor shows with a local business. Get a nice shirt with the embroidered logos, (not the patches). Make sure you have a good clean cut appearance. No tacky clothes, no flipflops, no spit running down your chin, Don't blow cigarette smoke in their faces, Definitely don't slobber on them when you have had too many drinks, etc.. Take some speech and writing classes at school/college. (Use spell check often!! thumb) Companies want somebody who can make a good impression and can communicate and convey info to potential customers. Most important DON'T LIE!!!! You have to be a "Salesperson" and not spit or snort when you talk to people. You need to be familiar with products so read alot about new techniques and equipment. At first you might have to "foot the bill" for the shirt, gas, meals to shows etc. Also, You probably won't get FULL sponsors at first. They might only help you with discounts on their products. This is important because NOBODY else should know what level of sponsorship you receive. Companies don't like blabbermouths!!! With each sponsor you get it increases your resume list and looks good to the new ones you are trying to get. You might not be on the Elite Tour but if you work at it you can still get Sponsors. The main thing is you have to show your sponsors what YOU can do for them, not what they can give you. Everybody is always asking companies for free stuff and they get tired of that, they are looking to improve their company's visibility and sales.
