This is virgin territory for me, but T-Daddy is going to take me sometime.

So, I'm hanging out on the boat, sipping my iced tea and I get a bite - we get it in close enough and it's a big arse shark...what do you do next? Pull it in? Shoot it? Cut the line?

Sharks are a blast to catch as I'm sure you now know. As far as what to do with it..... Shark is tastey and I fish out of a 22' bay boat so any shark caught under 4' gets pulled into the boat. Anything larger gets the line cut.

I'd rather be fishing.

No, I've never caught a shark, nor have I been saltwater fishing - so I am asking because that's something I want to do - regardless of what is caught.

So, what do you do when you get it in the boat. In all the movies I have seen, they shoot it smile

You do not want to bring in the boat if there is not enough room to get away from it but a billy club to the noggin works great if you don't have an icechest or fish box big enough to get it into.

I'd rather be fishing.

What kind of rig and bait do you use and how do you actually "reel it in"? T-Daddy said my sweet little Zebco won't work and even though my left elbow is titanium, I think it would pull me over. smile

I use 5-20 pound stingrays for bait or a nice jack..

Drift it on the bottom or under a ballon...

They will find it..

Any reel that has the capacity for atleast 30lbs test will do. Sharks will eat anything but I like using live blue runners that we catch fairly easily at the rigs and take frozen squid or frozen sardines for back up just in case. Make sure to tie on at least a 3' steel leader. If you buy about 10lbs of frozen squid, chop it up good and put it in a chum bag over the side of the boat they will come a running if they are in the area.

I'd rather be fishing.

Does whacking it with a billy club knock it out or "put it out"?

What is a jack?

Are the balloon things you are referring to like what they used in the movie The Perfect Storm?

Whatever it does, if you do bring it in the boat, keep your fingers out of it's mouth because the sharks nerves can linger around for hours after out of the water.

No body parts of mine are going in a shark! Are you saying that after you kill it, it's still going to twitch for awhile?

If I catch an electric eel, can I use it for shock therapy on someone?

Good question - I think some may have already had it done and it didn't work smile
