I'm kind of new to boating... got me a 16' lowe with a 30 hrs Johnson. The guy who had it before me put some nice features on it like a clear glass filter in the fuel line and all kinds of other goodies.

My question is this... when I pump the bulb to draw fuel from the tank to the motor... should it get hard and stop? Seems like it used to and now it does not. Have not taken it out to the lake in 3 months and was about to this weekend and noticed it would not get hard.

Is this a problem? It still had fuel in the line going to the motor, but the bulb pump just did not stop and get hard.

Thanks!

Yes, it should get hard, or at the very least, very difficult to squeeze....Mine takes about 7 squeezes on the pontoon boat...

Those glass filters are great!!!!

Mine really doesn't get "hard", but does get "firm".

I would describe it more as you begin to feel more and more resistance to squeezing with each pump of the bulb.

check the gas cap...there is a screw in the middle that vents the tank, it may be tightened to much

Yeah, that's probably a better way to describe it...thumb

Like it's been said "hard" "firm". But contratrary to somes belief. A PRIMER DOES NOT, WILL NOT, SHOULD NOT, STAY HARD AFTER A SHORT TIME CRANKING THE ENGINE OR ANY TIME THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. The primer bulbs only purpose in life is to pump fuel from the tank into the carbs to fill them up and to help prevent back flow of the fuel when the engine is not running. After that, the primer bulb is nothing more than a fat spot in the fuel line. If it stays hard while the engine is running, it is a BAD primer bulb. Hint; Never prime fuel thru a fuel filter, instead vaccuum thru a filter. Why? You can squeeze a primer bulb so hard that you can blow a partical thru a filter, ruin the filter, and clog your fuel pump/carbs....
