I am confused and do not feel like I got a clear answer from the instructor. Please weigh in on what you know. Does it make a difference if you are on a TRA lake or a Corp Lake such as Joe Pool?

I don't believe you can carry on corp property.

Lots of gray areas with the new conceal laws. Even the new law about carrying in your vehicle. Anyway, lots of boatramps are not safe at any time of day or night. You just need to decide if you want to protect you and yours. I can't figure why you would be checked unless you are breaking the law. You sure don't want to be breaking the law and carrying at the same time.

I know you can't carry them at Amistad or Meredith Since they fall under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service...Federal.

Whale, Yes it is the boat ramps I am concerned about and the possibility of getting jumped. I often feel like a sitting duck. The new law passed in 07' is very clear about having a weapon in your vehicle, but it doesn't draw any distinction for Federal Lands (mainly US Corp Prop.). I often fish Whitney and always use corp ramps. Guess I will ask a GW tommorrow since they would be the most likely person to get checked by.

You canot carry a handgun on COE lakes, just as you cannot carry a concealed handgun on any federal property. In fact, you can't even carry at the Post Office. But, yes, you can carry on state lands and private lakes, but not COE lakes.

If you are fishing tournaments you might also check the rules of your respective trail. Most only allow Law Officers to have a gun in the boat during tournament hours. FYI

I thought this post was about handguns...
Anyone have a link to the current handgun laws for carrying in your vehicle w/ or w/o a CHL?

Thanks for the post;; now tell me what it says:: I'm not talking about having or getting a permit. I am talking about being on the boat ramp by yourself...like the gr362 was/is talking about. I pull a fifth wheel a lot across the USA and know that you are not suppose to take a firearm into Yellowstone but you would be surprised the number of people that do have firearms. It is like "don't ask and don't tell" things. When I pulled into Canada I did not take a firearm. I don't think you would want to take one into Mexico. So...clarify me on what the law says about having one in your vehicle without a permit...guess I wasn't looking at the right thing.

I looked on the tpwd dept. rules and regs for public hunting lands since many of these lands are corps lands and after going through the rules about firearm posession it states that a person with a chl is in no way restricted from posessing a concealed handgun in strich accordance with the concealed handgun laws.
