I'm about to buy my first good trolling motor. Is 50 lbs. thrust strong enough? I have a small 15ft bass boat and think that a motorguide fw46fb is my choice. Pros and cons please.

I have a used one in the classifieds that is in excellent shape and is 54lbs of thrust with a Gator Mount. E-mail if interested. The post is called Trolling Motor.

The wind blows allot in Texas and this is why I tend to like the strongest trolling motor I can get that fits my budget and battery capacity.I do think that the 50-54# will work well for that boat though.

50# thrust on a 15ft boat should be plenty in any conditions.

I agree, its on a 19 footer right now. Not quite enough for my boat, thats the only reason I'm selling it. It should plane a 15 footer.

I know that some guys use two batteries for there trolling moter, at what pound thrust do you feel it is necessary to use two batteries?

12/24 or straight 24v trolling motors. I have always used 2 batteries.

I think thta is pretty much dictated by the trolling motor companies. If it is 12 Volt than only one battery at a time can be used, 12/24v, means u can use one or two at the same time, 24v always uses 2 batteries and 36v always uses three batteries. Not sure what pound thrust it is where they start making them for use with 24v. But 12/24v or 24v systems will last a lot longer during the day than a 12v.
