Don't know if we have many members out this direction, but will give this a try anyway. Any recommendations on some Mexican food in the LBK area? I know of the typical huge conglomerates and I'm not opposed to hear those as well, just was trying to get an idea of some smaller places, maybe mamá y estallido joints. Ohh and if you do know of these type places, do I need a translator because we have some areas of town that...well seemed to have not signed the guest book if you catch my drift.

There was a place called Lujan's that was a hole in the wall out there. It was the best Mexican food in town hands down. Look in the yellow pages and see where they are located. I know they have moved since the last time I ate there. Very good food!

There's a place I like that is pretty good called "Montelongo's". Its located on clovis road between and University and Indiana. Closer to Indiana. I think its closed on Mondays. This would have to be my favorite for real Mexican food.

When I was at Tech my buddies and I used to go to Picantes on 34th. They have more traditional Mescan food as well as the normal TexMex options. The servers speak just enough english to handle the order but dont expect a conversation. The breakfast burrotos are awesome (they are really cheap too) one is plenty of food. Its BYOB.

Hey Matt, Abuello's is our favorite. It's at 82nd and Quaker. It is the flagship store for Food Concepts, which is a growing chain.
Garcia's on Slide Road, north of the mall is also good, as well as Taquiero Jalisco over on Ave. Q.

Mexican Food in Lubbock has to start with the chili relleno's @ Durango's.The other foods are so-so Tex Mex,but the chili's are some of the best you'll have. Some of the same folks and cooks that used to be at the old Taco Pueblo on 3 rd and ave P. Try the queso also !!
Ill second Abuello's as well.Try the patio on Fri night.

There is a place across the street from the Wells Fargo Building downtown that has a very good lunch menu. I don't remember what it is called, but it's not bad.

Thanks yall. A nice patio night sounds good, for that sounds like Abuello's. Definately sounds like I need to hit up Durangos, is it at 19th and the Brownfield? I love some good rellenos.

Matt, Ate at Durango's last night. The chile Rellenos were EXACTLY like I remember them being at Taco Pueblo.
Very, very good. Top it off with a Sopapilla.
19th St. Come in south of there because of the construction.

Speaking of chili rellenos, drive to Tulia, and eat at the El Camino. I know you said Lubbock, but these are the some of the best you will ever eat.

I know what you mean. Some people dont care for real Mexican food, and tex-mex is all they have ever had. My uncle lives in Sonora, so I've had some good home cooked mexican food, and woo...talk about good eats.

Montelongo's is good. I also like Mi Tio's. Josie's and Lujan's both have excellent carne guisada.
