I've been experiencing line twist on my baitcasters lately...on both the Revo S and the round Abu Garcia reels. Line is 15 pound fluorocarbon coated P Line. I've never had this problem before. Does anyone have ideas about the cause and how I can prevent it in the future?

My guess is that it's not the reel. More likely your terminal tackle that's causing the line twist. What have you been fishing with them?

Texas rig and/or shaky head rig. Are they susceptible to line twist?

Worst thing for line twist I have found is a weightless Senko type bait. It has to be rigged perfectly straight, especially if you crank it very fast to get it in for another cast.

A shaky head, fish head spin, senko, 10"worm, and a drop shot are the worst for twisting your line. Line twists absolutely drive me crazy!!

You might try putting a swivel about 12" up the line or every how far you can get away with.

I agree with Big Red. I have always used swivels and never seem to have any line twisting. I use the Sampo lock snap swivels and they are strong.

If you don't want to use a snap swivel, tye on Barrell or Crane swivel and then use a 12"+ leader. I learned this fishing spinning rigs with floating worms.

Here is a tip for the line twisting. (Baitcaster or Spinning)
Remove the lure, let out line, idle with the big engine and free spool the line off. Engage the reel about half way down the spool (longer if you like) and then just idle for about 10 seconds. This will take all the line twist out. Stope engine. Reel in the line and retie your lure. If you have someone with you it only takes a few minutes. The friction of the water on the line will unravel any twists.

I've never had a shakey head cause line twist. The weight is significantly at the bottom of the hook eye. The only way you could get twist with it is if you fished it vertically and suspended, where every twitch might make it circle in one direction. T-rigs could certainly do it if you don't have it rigged just right.

Any lure not rigged or running properly can add to line twist. The cure is to take an extra second to rig your worms as straight as possible and keep your other baits tuned so they run correctly. If you do notice some twisting then before casting again allow the bait to just hang there with a couple of feet of line between the bait and the rod tip and the twist will work most of itself out.
