Sounds like you had a good day! It's rare that I get a school like I did to stay in one spot for long, they usually move off after a few minutes. If you're talking about the rocky point that has 2 big slabs of concrete on it, you have done much better than I there, though I see quite a few boats fish off there.

I fish mostly in the afternoon/evening, and only a few times in the morning. For mornings it seems like I do best from 6-8am, but I have had much better success in the evening, especially around 4-6pm. But that may just be because I got better at fishing since then. When I learned I could catch em later in the day, I stopped going mornings.

I'll be out there today with my wife around 4-6pm, in one or two of the coves.

I was out from 5-8pm, and only had 2 that spit the hook. On the other hand, my wife landed 3 dinks on worms and learned how to dehook them herself. So wife 3, me 0.

The water was a bit choppy from the wind and the boats/jetskiis, including a couple guys who decided to cruise into the cove I was in and do some donuts. Thanks a lot. There should be a law prohibiting watersport vehicles from coming with 300 feet of the shoreline.

I think I'll save my fishing outings to weekdays when the lake traffic is scarce.

No that's Rockledge Park or whatever it's called that you are talking about. Murrell is about 2 miles from the actual dam.

Wooo!

Went out from 2-4pm. Didn't expect much since it was overcast and so windy, around 20-30mph from what I read. The lake looked scary, with white crest waves everywhere. Didn't do too bad though, 3 fish, biggest was 2.5lbs. Wife also caught 3, with a 2 pounder, her biggest yet. Mine caught on a T-rig black craw w/ red flakes and hers caught with a T-rigged watermelon worm w/ red flakes.

Sad thing was a boat I saw off the point right in front of the main parking lot. It was anchored close to shore with a cover on top of it. He must have run over the rocks there and gashed the hull. Saw ~6 guys show up to repair it or w/e. I always thought the rocks there needed a bouy or something, I witnessed some other guy smash into them 2 weeks ago - made a bone shivering crunching sound.

I was out there on Labor Day and saw it too; figured he wasn't paying attention and got stuck. Anyways, here's the Labor Day report:

The good: Got there at 6:30 am and caught 4 LMB all on topwater with my first LMB in the slot caught on a 1/8 oz. Pop-R. around 8:30, the sandies started schooling. And they stayed. Caught 15-20 marginal sandies (9" to 10" mostly) on rooster tails and left them biting at 10:00 am when it got too hot and sunny for me. Everyone was catching them. Best ddy I've had in a few months.

And now...the bad: Saw two guys out there cast netting fish. They were neck high in the water and when no one was looking, they would stand up and throw the net out then get back in the water. I saw them put one largemouth on their stringer that was pushing 3 lbs and they had at least 3 other fish on there. Called TPWD, but not sure if they made it out there in time. It was pretty disgusting and obvious that they knew what they were doing was illegal. Everytime I would look over there they would stop what they were doing and pretend to walk the other way.

Neat, you must have been in the same cove as my friend. He was out with his brother, dad, and 2 of their friends and were landing tons of Sandies too. He said a couple boats and 1-2 other people on the rocky side of the cove were hitting the same school.

I really hope TPWD got there in time to get those guys. It's one thing to be ignorant of the law, but what nerve to do something they knew was illegal in front of people in broad daylight.

ThirdROC, what is up? I went again yesterday (Tuesday) and caught a few small mouth. They were jumping, but nothing big. I went from about 5 to 6. Tom took all the lures, so all i had was a rooster tail. No one was out there. Next time you go, call me. I am usually home around 4 or 4:30. Good luck out there.

Hey, bout time you showed up on the forums. Yeah I'm going out tomorrow with Tom when he gets off work. We'll probably still be out there when you get off, so we'll call you. My mother in law ate the Sandie I gave her and loved it, so now I have pressure to catch more!

Me and Tom kept catching after you left, I had a couple dinks and 2 that were 1.5-2 lbs. Tom had 6+ little guys. Its funny, your dad came out in his work clothes to see how we were doing! Finally around 8pm a small school of sandies appeared down the shore, so we ran over there, but was only able to snag one keeper before they dispersed.

Let's hit it again Saturday!

well today stank, had a few dinks but water was choppy and crowded again. Had a ski boat park right in front of me for about 15 min. They drifted so close I could throw my weightless worm ACROSS their boat. Boat + ski rope and skiier sitting in water meant I just sat down and waited for them to leave. At least he apologized and puttered away at idle. That was one of about 5 boats and 3 jetskiis that were within a long cast distance from me that day. Not to mention the family of 8 that were netting baitfish on the other side of the point and had 2 kids throwing sticks and rocks in the water 15ft from me.

I wish I wasn't so obsessed with fishing or I would remember that its like that every Saturday and save my time.

If idiots get to be too much of a problem, and you still want to fish weekends, first light is usually a great time to fish. The only other people out are other fisherman and they are generally very courteous.

Went out this morning and did so-so. Water was choppy and there was no topwater bite which kind of sucked; I was daydreaming at work all week about watching my lure get blown up on. Fished off the point with about 5 boats and ended up catching 4 around 10-12" and lost one that was close to 14" on a watermelon red flake rattlesnake. Saw the boaters catch a couple of slot fish, but overall, slower than it has been last couple weeks. First time catching fish with a plastic worm; kind of fun!

Went out 5:30 - 8pm. Caught a dink my second cast and another my last cast. The 2.5 hours in between was non-eventful. Water was very calm, but didnt see the usual fish activity on the surface that I normally do. My heart started skipping beats when I saw an enormous brown shape surfacing toward my lure, but it was just a large turtle... Funny thing, it happened about 3 min later and my heart skipped again thinking it was a big one!
