It is the time of year when the slab bite goes to pot, caught a few yesterday on T.N.T. slabs but nothing to brag about, so switched to the hell/pet with much better results.
Sat a.m. fished with repeat Tillman for the zillionith time, total of 70 caught, one nice Hyrid and the rest Sandies with half being magnums.
Sun a.m. fished with Montgomery group once again, party of 4 they did not want to get on water too early and fish have not being doing much early anyway. Got on water at 8:10 and went to first spot and a boat was parked right on top of it so went to 2nd spot and put out 4 hell/pets with 4 fish caught in ten minutes, one went into box so went to 3rd spot on east side of lake and at 10:10 was finished with a 4 person limit of 100 Sandies, one legal Hybrid and several undersize ones, even caught a nice Black BAss on the hell/pet. Nonstop triples even some quadruples, which adds up quick. Did not get hung up once and no breakoffs. Spent as much time cleaning as they did catching. Some kids decided to catfish with worms while I cleaned the 100 Sandies, and it was on. 15 kitties, 2 over 7.lbs and one that broke off 20 lb. test.
Let me make my one complaint then shut up. Saturday we were on a point by ourselves using the hell/pet, I had a marker in the water and up comes a BAss Boat, he proceeds to drop his trolling motor and move up between my boat and my buoy, about 15 yards away from us and tell me that he is going to use slabs instead of trolling. Well after watching him and his partner catch zilch and we catch about 20 more, we had enough and picked up the buoy and hauled it. He just stared us down, there is enough spots on this lake for everybody, I never troll when other boats are present and I hope people would give my space when I am on fish and trolling. I realize that the hell/pet is not exactly the normal style of fishing, but as a guide I have to do what it takes to put fish in the box. Like Tawakoni Guide Joe Read said yesterday," If you want to pay me for a boat ride that is fine but fishing is tough right now"

With all the cigarette boats on the water this weekend, am surprised there are not more accidents. I saw so many safe boating violations it was not even funny. Mostly watercraft, did see waverunners jumping over boaters wake and clearly inside the 50 ft. zone. Also at Don's Port saw not one but 2 differnt waverunners running on plane inside the no wake zone. The 2 game wardens I saw were busy towing in inoperable boats.
Bet lake won't be crowded on Tuesday.

I wanted to go out this weekend, but no way on a holiday. Last time I was at CC (two weeks ago) I almost got hit by skiers. We were trolling and they came up within 20 yards of us, didn't think fast enough to get his tx number. (I was yelling too much).

I'm new, what's hell/pet fishing?

My wife and i took the tandem fishing kayak out Sunday on CC this Labor day weekend for some exercise. Uneventfull except for a pontoon boat that diverted course and started to come right at us. We were staying close to the docks, so I got us closer to a dock that had an inoperatable lift. The pontoon kept coming at us. Couldn't figure why he kept coming at us because there was no place to put up. When he got closer, he yelled, Why don't you get out in the open where I can run you over? My wife and I both laughed. It was just someone we knew messing with us.

ditto on the hell pet thing- the wife and i were trolling and found fish on a hump near the greenville pump station at tawakoni, we defined school, dropped a marker and started slabbing- could not get a bit- hell pets back on and we kept 22 mega sandies in less than 2 hours

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

GaryC, it's a great way to locate fish schools and sometimes hook into a monster. Most folks look down at trolling but in deperate times it works great. thumb If I hook 2 in the same area I usually throw a marker and go to slabs and humdingers.

Now, I use braid and have my own special rigging for different targets. Be creative. Also, be nice and don't troll thru active schools and other boats.

Thanks for the explaination. My wife got me a fish finder for my birthday, so we were just out messing around trying to get the fish alarm to go off.

What does a hell-pet look like and how do you rig it. I would like to try it at Lake Lewisville.
